Prozac is an anti-depressant, one of the first to come out around 1988. Nowadays, it is not usually prescribed for more than a few years at the most. In the past, it was prescribed for many years to some patients. One drawback is that it can trigger mania in bi-polar patients (often happens when a patient is misdiagnosed as being clinically depressed only). Very effective medicine.

Prozac is a mood alterating psychotropic medication primarily used to treat depression. It is a prescription medication that along with counseling helps a person to adjust and improve the quality of the life. It is not a medication you take PRN (here and there) but one that requires at least two weeks to reach a therapeutic level in the blood to best help the person.

An anti-depressant, mainly used for adults, but sometimes for children, though in some cases, children with depression who were taking Prozac got even worse.
My psychiatrist was telling me about it.
