Depending on your credit and where you live what most dealerships will do is whats called a hold check, meaning that you write the check out and date it for the date of purchase but they will not deposit it and you can still take the car home w/ you

I work at a dealership and we do this for our customers. You should request that it not be deposited until a certain date, and they will just staple the check in the deal jacket.
Post dating a check really doesn't matter since people have post-dated theirs before and they have still been deposited.

The reason you can't post date a check simple. If something would happen to you before the date on the check the dealer ship is SOL. What will happen is this you write the check out with todays date and agree on a date with the dealership on when they can cash it. As stated before car dealers want your business so they will work with you if you're credit worthy...

Sure, as long as you let them check your credit first. I was a curbstone dealer for 15+ years and I usually insisted on cash but with maybe 10% of buyers, I just "knew" their checks were good. Never was wrong. One time, back when dealers gave the customers the title and not sent them in on their behalf, I actually FORGOT to get the money. I called the customer and he forgot too. The cash was in his pocket, he met me halfway and gave it to me despite the car legally being his. If he hadnt, there wouldnt have been anything I could do about it. Dealers generally can "feel" their customers out. And they may accept your check, say they want to have your car spruced up and then send an unoccupied salesman to your bank to cash the check before you actually drive off. (Not for cash, but a cashiers check in the dealers name) Ive seen that happen at new car dealers when they were not certain of the buyer.

Most will. A dealership will go to great lengths to show a car as being sold. My dealership will "loan" you the balance of the downpayment up to 30 days.

I don't see why not. It makes no difference to them whether you drop it in on Thursday or give them a post dated one to deposit on Thursday. At least they know they're going to get it! I'd be really surprised if they said no. If they do, just mail it on the Wednesday & they'll get it Thursday - without you dropping it in.

Every dealership is different. They probably would since you have to get financed, and they won't release the auto until you are approved.

Post dating a check is ILLEGAL. But dealers will delay depositing it if you ask.
