I've been out of the closet for 29 years now, and disowned for most of that time. It happens.

No, but I understand where you're coming from. My parents raised me under Christian beliefs. They weren't strict about it, mind you... but they sometimes wince if I make a comment while visiting them, watching the news, or even during discussions. We don't stand around talking about God, but they know fully well where I stand on the subject. They're sour about it, but haven't tried to tell me that my position is wrong. I guess they figure that after some of the stuff I've gone through, I've earned the right to form my own opinion.

I don't think my parents actually know, but I wouldn't consider myself closeted, it just never comes up...
They also could be confused because I'm currently having a quasi-ramadan and live my life mostly by taoistic principles... But I don't think they care enough about it to look closely.

I wouldn't dare tell my family that I'm an atheist, but there are a lot of things about my life that I refuse to tell them.

Actually my parents accepted me how I was. That is why I do really like them. My father is a strict catholic.
