I find it strange that people who are always going on and on about how much they love and care about the human race are perfectly ok with their god tormenting the people they love for all eternity. (See the third answer.)
If you actually do care about people, wouldn't you ask god to show mercy no matter if the people are alive or dead? Why do you get off the hook once they are dead and say 'well, god's judgement, I'm not even going to ask him to be compassionate, too late'?
Torturing people for all eternity for crimes they commited in a finite lifetime seems incredibly unreasonable.

Reason Attacks Faith - She didn't apologize to me, she apologized for some other foolish statement she made to someone else. She SHOULD apologize to the memory of her father.

Kittywink - So you'll call your god omnipotent and give him credit for literally everything, but when it comes to hell, he CAN'T end it? What kind of a weakling omnipotent god is that?

We will pray for people to come to Christ. We won't ask God to deny His nature.. He is perfectly merciful, and perfectly just. He can't deny either of those attributes...Jim

If god does exist, (I'm an Atheist trying to make a point, work with me here!)... If god does exist, at best, he is a fat kid beating up nerds for lunch money. It's very funny that the same people that claim that they're loving, and that they'll "pray" for all who don't find Jesus to get into "heaven", are the same people who kill in the name of god, and curse people out for having different veiws. I wish religion would just FADE away already! Sure, it's helped us move ahead SOMETIMES, but all it's really done is cause controversy and hatred.

i'm no longer pleased with people burning in hell, subsequently I pray for people who don't comprehend Jesus- God isn't pleased with all people going to hell the two, subsequently He despatched His Son- God is love, yet he's likewise holy and in basic terms. My dad became no longer a believer, and He gave up the ghost. Do you think of I relish the actuality that my dad is in hell, quite of heaven. NO NO NO . even if by way of fact of God's holiness there must be a fee for sin. Jesus lived the existence, we could desire to consistently have lived, and died the demise we could desire to consistently have died. I do have love for my fellow guy subsequently I pray others will come to comprehend Jesus. with the help of how, i became a sinner too- and that i'm nonetheless no longer suitable, yet i'm coated with the help of the blood of Jesus. Please do no longer take Christians as wanting that girls and adult men flow to hell, evaluate us compassionate for sharing the way which you will no longer.

Because the fundies do love their devices of torture and bloodshed. Gets 'em off. Which is why I seriously think they want to remove violence in movies (just not movies about God or Jesus, as Passion Of The Christ elequintly pointed out)--they know it's fake! Not real enough for them! So they want to increase the death penalty, and decrease the fake violence on TV and videogames. They'd like us all to be in Church agonizing over the prospect of a firey eternity in Hell... but not let us corrupt our minds by playing Doom on the computer. They'd like us to visualize the suffering we'll be punished with, rather than visualizing having sex with the naked girl in the magazine. Ridiculas, isn't it? But it wouldn't stop there. As the Spanish Inquisition AND the Crusades have shown, we'd soon be up to more judgemental garbage. Who knows? Maybe murdering homosexuals in the street. It's hard to say!
Thankfully, I'm talking about fundies. Not all who carry the Christian banner also carry the same views. Of course, not all of these people have probably read this far before simply giving me a "thumbs down" and moving on. *Shrug!* That's still my story, and--until I'm proven wrong (please, please, prove me wrong, fellas!)--I'm stickin' to it.

What kind of monstrous mind would conceive of a place of eternally burning fire, where the wicked go to be tortured forever and ever? Is there any crime so great as to deserve such horrific punishment? Would anyone think it a desirable thing to take men out of death row and execute them by setting them on fire? No humane person would tolerate such barbarity, but that is what many Christian denominations teach about the afterlife--the only difference being that the victim does not die but goes on living in unbearable agony for all eternity, with God's approval. This, to me, is one of the most vulgar of Christian teachings. I remember skimming through a book about torture and wondering: Who came up with these awful devices? What kind of mind does one have to possess to conceive of machines that inflict pain upon other humans? I now ask the same about BibleGod: What kind of deity would imagine the cruelty of hellfire, let alone build a place where it can be carried out? And then for people to accept that this is good, just, and proper--well, it makes me ashamed to be a member of the human species.

First off, Prayer is primarily for Thanking God for His Blessings, confessing our sins and begging His Mercy. Yes there are times when one prays to ask for something; health, strength, stamina, wisdom etc. But if you are asking God for the winning Power Ball numbers you will probably be greatly disappointed.
Secondly you will never see or hear me going on and on about how much I love and care about the human race. I love my God and I love my Brothers and Sisters in Christ. I will preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ; however, if one has ears yet does not hear it isn’t my problem…
Also I am not perfectly ok with the people I love being tormented for all eternity. It pains me greatly but it was their decision that placed them there, not God’s. I prayed for them when they were alive after physical death it is a moot point. The Catholic Church got a lot of grief selling Indulgences.
As to “Torturing people for all eternity for crimes they committed in a finite lifetime seems incredibly unreasonable.” It always seems “unreasonable” to nonbelievers. I know it did to me. I guess that is because somewhere deep inside they know that something is not quite right in their life. Some like me eventually come to terms with it. Others do not.
God loves sinners… the ones that repent. However, God’s patience unlike His Ontos is not infinite.

I am a Christian, and it worries me that so many Christians not only believe as you say, but go as far to say that the crucifiction was righteous. That extends there venom to God himself. It's a very good thing that God has the power to forgive, for if he couldn't forgive them...well...let's call them assesories, after the fact.

Such a request is completely unscriptural, and if they believe in the Bible, they would realize that is not feasible. It's a good thought, just like one day there will be peace on earth, but there's no point in praying for something God already said isn't gonna happen.

You are 100% WRONG. You did not ask me and I did not say NO !!!! We are living in Hell and you don't even realize it. All we got to do is die and go to Heaven. STOP blaming God. Humans have created this cess pool. But it is your and my duty to have Faith. Ask God to help make our lives more Loving. Take my Advice --- Get the Holy Bible and start reading . No it is not too Late. You have time , so start right now and ask God to help comfort your thoughts and give you extra strength to endure. It is up to you, to find Peace, Love and Understanding . So stop blaming God and others. When terrible crimes are commited, then ask God for Forgiveness. God Loves us all and will Forgive, if we ask. Peace be with You !!

Because that could never happen.Sin has a price. It would be a perfect world if Hell didn't exist but reality it does. And the person you are speaking about proably knew it would be a waste of time to pray what would be consider a foolish prayer.
People send themselves there. If only they would have accepted when they had the chance.People are not in Hell because they were bad people - they are there because they rejected the Son!

I think you have it all wrong. In Christianity, as in every religion, there are consequences. To try to wish way those consequences is stupid. Even the law has consequences, that is part of what helps us as humans follow the rules. If there are not consequences, be it hell, bad karma, tartarus or prision, why should we follow the rules?
And Starbrite got it right. I want to let her know I appreciate her answer.
