Had one and it's no problem. You are out when the tube goes in and the tube is out before you are awake. You will never know it was there I had the reduction done and the only regret was that i didn't have it done sooner Not bad at all so do not be afraid

Do to the level of anesthesia you will have to be under, an endotracheal tube is necessary. Breast reduction is major surgery. Don't worry to much about it...you will be asleep before they put it in and still asleep when they take it out (barring complications, of course). To take the tube out before you wake up is just a matter of lightening your level of anesthesia once the reduction is complete. You won't remember it at all. You will have a bit of a sore throat when you wake up but it will go away. Medications given these days have a nice little touch...amnesia. You remember very little-if anything-about the procedure.

I have had surgery many times and have had endotracheal tubes several times. There's really nothing to it. The anesthesoiologist knows what he's doing. After I learned how to intubate people in EMT school, I realized how simple it really is. It seems scary...the idea of having a tube down your throat and worst of all, of waking up with it. Unless someone has to be sustained by a ventilator after the surgery is over, the tube will be removed. For a breast reduction, it is very unlikely you will need to still be on a ventilator. You will most likely be on an oxygen mask when you wake up.

Try not to worry. And good luck with your surgery!

You could talk to the doctors but I doubt there is anything you can do about the tube.

I had no problems with my surgery with breathing.
