Greetings!
There might be worse things out there than are here-but, some religious people depend on Logic, so they will evolve into a new religious life-form.
I`m not convinced that humans ARE the "most intelligent life" even here on Gaia.

I don't really see how evolution really comes into your question, unless you are saying that what we discovered on this new earth is an upcoming Earth (what Earth may have previously been like). I think for the most party people would just be fascinated and wouldn't let it consume them. The U.S. would most certainly be the first to visit/arrive and they would only build friendly relationships; I'm sure we'd just treat it like a different country. If there weren't humans then we would probably try and study it and possible make it habitable, but I never think it would replace what we have. As for religion, I don't think it would matter. People would just believe that God's expanse is as great as they always believed, but would now be able to visualize it better. Evolutoin doesn't necessarily conflict with religion.

I honestly think it was this 'intelligent life' visiting early humans that spawned our religious beliefs in the first place. If they visited again, humans would merely incorporate this visitation into their religious beliefs. They would view the visitation through a perceptive lens shaped by their religious beliefs.
Ironically, the last time this question arose a few days ago, some of the atheists were saying the whole notion of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe was as far-fetched as God was. Um, Hello?!? Why would life only happen on Earth and nowhere else? You would think anybody who feels there's a scientific explanation for the origin of life would also believe that life could originate in more places than just our own Earth. If the origin of life was just a singular one-time fluke, it does tend to play into the hands of those claiming it was a special ['Divine'] event. Follow me?

i think religions will still remain very firm in their beliefs, despite such a discovery. ok....so if we find other intelligent life out there.........what if, through contact with this intelligent life, we discover that they too do believe in the existence of God.
Apart from this idea, religion is centered on the relationship between human beings and God. this, therefore, does not restrict the possibility that there is other intelligent life out there in the universe, which could have also been created by God. After all......these extraterrestrials, too, should they exist, may just have a relationship with God as well.

I can't answer for religious people, but I can answer as a Christian:
All answers you need to know for your salvation are to be found in the Word of God.
Where is the "logic" in assuming there is another form of life? what makes guessing and wishes become logic?
Do not waste your time on "what if's" use you time wisely on facts: The Holy Bible
Try to prove, that Christ is not God, and that He did not get crucified, died and rose again.....I have proof that it is true, eye witnesses has recorded these facts. Where are the so called prof of the opposite?
But it takes efforts to discover these truths, and a willingness to accept the truth.
It is just to easy to say what if, and even foolish when we have the written Words of God within reach.
All praise to our Creator, for revealing His will to us.
Soli Deo Gloria

As they said in Contact, "Seems like an awful waste of space" if we're the only intelligent (somewhat) life in the universe.

Read your Bible. Christians already know that there are intelligent life in other parts of the universe. The question is : are humans ingenious enough to find them SCIENTIFICALLY?
