Yes, over the years I have dreamed some wild things, and have been awed at the power of the subconscious. As a result, I wake up when dreaming of something that just doesn't seam right. I'd guess 1 in 10 times I know I'm dreaming and wake myself up.

I almost never know that I'm dreaming. I actually have exactly the opposite experience. It takes a few minutes after I wake up to realize that what I'm thinking about was a dream and reality is different. For example, I dreamed that I was the only one in my family to have failed to graduate high school. It actually took me fifteen minutes after I woke up to remember that I had a college degree. I hate dreaming.

Occassionally. What is really difficult is to know you are in a dream and then control what you do. As you head into sleep, tell yourself to look at the palm of your hand in your dream. If you can gain control of your dreams by extending this process, some amazing things can happen.

Not as much as I'd like to.
Some of my nightmares are too real.
Controlling what, when, and how we dream is possible. I just haven't been able to find the time to research it enough for me to take total control.
When I am aware of myself dreaming I have total control over the dream. I love that!

Yes, it is called lucid dreaming. It's something that you can develop and learn how to do more often, if you want to. Look it up on the net, it's an interesting topic.
