I have been going to the gym from Jan. to present. I have not lost any weight but I have managed to gain 20lbs. none of what I have gained has been muscle . I have gone to the doctor and he has tested me for any and everything that would cause me to gain weight. I only eat baked and grilled food. I eat 6ouz. of meat, and my vegetables. I don’t know what else to do other then stop eating, and to tell the truth I think I would stil gain it. Can anyone help me know what to do?

I've been there.

The first thing to do is realize your not mutant and that you can lose weight. Losing weight for most people is about simple math, you have to exude more energy than you take in. For a while I thought no matter how much I exercised I couldn't lose weight.

The next step is to really take a look at why you've gained weight, since you've been to the doctor and ruled out medical issues. You need to be on top of what your putting in your body. Counting calories may seem like hard work, but after 2 weeks, you should have a good understanding about what your putting into yourself and more importantly, how much your putting into yourself.

I would start with a food journal. Print the journal out on this link and start recording what you eat everyday for a week or two. You may discover your putting in alot more than you thought. Make sure to check labels and ask if your going out to it. To print this diary go to the print this page icon on the right side of the page in the middle.

Also if your having trouble figuring out how many calories are in a food, check out the next site, you just punch in the food your eating and it tells you how many calories fat and the portion size. Too much or too little food will stop your body from burning fat.

Next make sure your exercising correctly, too little or even too much exercise can cause your body not to burn any fat, to actually burning muscle instead of fat. If you have $50 or so, you can actually just get 1 hour of personal training and ask the trainer to come up with a routine for you and how you should progress on the routine so that if your running or on the elipicle machine, you know when to kick it up a notch and what range you should be in.

Anyway, I hope this helped, and don't give up, you'll lose the weight.

When you go to the gym you should do it in increments of 45 minutes. You should do either legs, arms/chest, or back/abs on one day for the 45minutes. Go to max you can do on that machine when you feel like it and you should do it for atleast 6 reps. If you are feeling tired and need to go down weight, then go down weight but do more reps. I usually do twelve reps and fourteen when I feel like it.

Building muscle is the MOST important thing you can do to lose weight. Cardio is only for warm-ups and cool-downs and you should only do cardio (when you go to the gym) in increments of 10-15 minutes.

NEVER go to the gym on an empty stomach. When you are hungry you retain fat better and lose muscle. The more muscle you have the more fat you burn at night or when you are not doing anything.

As for eating, eat three full meals a day. Giving up red meat or dairy can also help you lose weight and keep it off.

I am a vegetarian and I've lost 15 pounds since Thanksgiving.

Just make sure you get all your important calcium and protein and carbs and you will be fine.

Someone told me at the gym years ago that I would not see weight loss until I started doing cardio for at least 60 minutes everyday. I think that she was right. I have had small steady weight loss ever since I started to do this, although it is still not as much as I would like. If you already do this at the gym, then it could be your diet. You could eat less meat and increase your veggies, for instance. Studies have shown that vegetarians tend to have less weight problems. Diets such as the high protein/low carb diets can be a quick fix, but the weight tends to always come back.

If you arent eating enough, your body will store anything you eat as fat because it is preparing for deprivation later. Make sure you are getting enough calories (you should try to walk the line between stuffed and starved; you should feel satisfied). If you are hungry most of the time, eat more healthy foods, and eat more often! 4-5 small meals throughout the day (breakfast is crucial for weight loss as well) is a good aid for weight loss.

I recently read an article or something on people who eat in their sleep...its an odd thing to check for but it may be worth it.

Well I feel it is fully approximately self-manage: Breakfast: imperative toast and a 70-calorie yogurt Lunch: Fruit (any form, besides banana) and a fish (now not fried) Snack in case you get hungry: gum or ninety-calorie vitamin bar Dinner: Light soup (now not a creamy soup, it has an excessive amount of fats) Or might be a cup of precise K or cheerios Some different recommendations: DON'T EVER DINNER AFTER 7PM, IT HAS BEEN PROVEN IN INVESTIGATIONS AND THAT HELPS A LOT, TRY TO DINNER BEFORE 7, I SWEAR IT'S AMAZING I endorse you espresso within the morning, it offers you plenty of power! (with out sugar, or might be splenda) Another factor is to drink inexperienced tea two times an afternoon, it burns fats and it is well on your well being And of direction, do no less than 50 abs in keeping with day Good success

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You should pick up on fruit, especially grapes, papaya, and the secret choice Pears. These fruits will help break down food much faster. Also know as enzymes. When you workout eat right after, then clean up. Lot of people have the mistake to shower up after the workout, when in fact that is going to slow down your body's process of burning calories, therefore when they eat, their body has cool down and they wont be burning the same number of calories as when they eat then shower up. You see your body is still warm so when you eat your quickly burning off what your eating. Oh yeah and do sprints. Good luck

CandyxAcid has some very valid points. In addition, I would recommend taking a closer inventory of your daily caloric intake (especially if you are eating a great deal of meat).

If you are on a low carb diet, that can deplete your lean mass and lower your resting metabolic rate. Here is more info about fat loss:

I think you are probably eating more than you think you are. Did you know one little pat of butter has 100 calories. A tablespoon of oil has 120 calories. The sauces that you put on your meat have lots of calories.Look at the labels. Do you drink regular soda? One can has around 150 calories. One chocolate kiss has 25 calories. 2 ounces of uncooked pasta has 210 calories. One ounce of cheese has 100 calories.
Do you weigh your food with scale or are you just guessing? If you are just guessing, you are probably eating more than you thought. Its very easy to eat too much and not even know it!
