Stop stressing out and leave it as is. What are you going to do if it turns out red? I'm sure you look fine. Go lighter when you have more time to think about it and get it done the right way.

I would recommend you to go to sallys and purchase "Color Corrector", if they are all out or don't have any use good old fashion apple vinegar--this is a last resort though. Use this first, before you apply the color. This will strip some of the color from the hair. Second, I would recommend you to buy a color that is atleast two shades lighter just to ensure that the color lifts. Make sure you condition your hair EXTREMELY WELL with a really good protein conditioner such as New Era 2000. Also make sure you shampoo your color out with a Nuetralizing Shampoo (any brand) to restore your hair to its proper ph balance because you are really putting a lot of chemicals on it. Be careful, and good luck!!

it won't work. Putting a light brown over a dark brown will only add more darkness or not change it at all. Worse...you'll just damage your hair. Either, just wear a ponytail tonight and get a professional to fix it tomorrow. OR...last resort, wash your hair like 4-5 times with Dawn Dish Detergent to strip the dark color out...this works!

No, you will need to buy a dye that is several shade lighter to counteract the dye, my daughter dyes her hair a medium brown and eventually her hair got almost black, they had her put a medium blonde on it to lighten it some.

TRUST ME FORM YEARS OF BOX DYING EXPERIENCE
do NOT a lighter shade of brown will only back it dark
using a blonde color risks your hair turning orange
mix alot of baking soda with your shampoo and shampoo really hard for 5 minutes and that will lighten your color
it will work trust me

You should be okay since your are only going 1 shade lighter.
Professional dye job is better for more drastic changes.

I would not go one shade lighter, because it probably won't do anything. Choose one that is a couple shades lighter.

Just inform her it kind of took you via surprise, if she particularly likes you which I believe she does, she'll realise. It suggests you have got a good relationship going too if she's not stricken through that type of thing.
