Consider switching to Wellbutrin. SSRIs are notorious for this particular side effect. Wellbutrin, on the other hand, is a very effective, atypical anti-depressant with an exceptionally low incidence of sexual side effects.

most SSRI's have a short term side effect of diminished sex drive. If it is helping your depression, give the medication 3-6 months more before considered reducing it any more. It is very important for SSRI's to have a constant level in your system. The human body is very much adaptable and often normal drives/urges return.

SSRI's do have that effect. And as someone has already said Wellbutrin is one option that works well for some people. It acts on different neurotransmitters in the brain however. Celexa works on serotonin and Wellbutrin on dopamine, so you may not feel any effects from it. Cymbalta is a newer medication out that works on both serotonin and norepinephrine with low risk of sexual side effects. It is definitely worth it to speak with your doctor to change to something else.

Unfortunately, this is a common side effect of SSRIs.
You could ask your doctor about other anti depressants that don't tend to have this effect; I believe there's one called Wellbutrin that has proved helpful for some people.

As most of the posters have said, SSRI's as well as many anti depressents have this effect. I have used many of them. Some of thes ehave suggested Wellbutrin, that had the same effect for me and I became aggresive. The one drug that has worked for depression with the least side effect for me has been Lamictal. But it also has a small effect. So my best advice , like the others, is to talk to your family physician. Have him give you some Viagra or one of the other drugs for ED.

This is SOOO common.
Now, depending upon your condition, ask your Doctor if Depakote is on the list of alternative medications that may be helpful for your condition.
My Doctor prescribed it to me for Migraines, and my libido shot through the roof. It was not something expected.
I know that Depakote is used also for bi-polar.
I found later my Doctor did not stress the probability of birth defects of children while on the medication, so I stopped taking it (I am a female in child-bearing years)

I would continue with the Celexa and add Welbutrin to it. Its a good combo. You could also take a pill holiday on weekends for sex without it effecting your depression.
