If you want to be a "pilot" then the Navy is not for you. They call their guys "Naval Aviators" and they do not fly alone. Their fighter planes have a guy flying and a weapons officer in the back seat. The WIZZO is the guy who gets to shoot down the enemy planes.

What you really want to ask is who has the hottest fighter jet?

The USAF is just now putting F22s into the field. They are the top of the line air superiority fighter and the best in the world. The Navy on the other hand just retired all of their F14s and do not have any plane designed specifically for air superiority. The Navy has to make do with F18 Super Hornets until the JSF comes on line in 10 years.

For a real fighter pilot, there is no choice at all. Go Air Force.

I may be prejudiced because I was a Marine but what I have read and been told Navy and Marine Corps pilots are the best and the Marine pilots are better than the Navy. I'm including Marine pilots because they go through the same training. If there is one example to explain why Naval/Marine pilots are so good is to think about landing a jet at over 100 mph on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier that is rolling and moving up and down and it's at night. Marine pilots will do almost anything with their aircraft to look out for their fellow Marines. I've seen actual film of Marine pilots flying so low to help the troops on the ground that they were below tree level.
So, I recommend being a Naval/Marine pilot. I have nothing against the Air Force because their mission during combat is different.

Just remember, the Navy is the only branch to have a song written about them by a bunch of Gay disco singers.

USAF is always the first in and last out. If you want to be a fighter pilot, go AF, F-15 or F-22 driver.

The best fighter jocks in the world belong to the US military. As far as which branch to fly for, it depends on how much of an adrenaline junkie you are. Flying a state of the art fighter is one of the most thrilling things a person could do, but if you REALLY want some fun, try landing a battle damaged fighter on the deck of a carrier in a rainstorm at night in rough seas, and oh by the way, your port engine is dead, and you have lost all of your electronic navigation equipment...Good Luck! Go Navy!

I'd apply for both. Chances of getting in either one are very, very limited.
Some differences"
The Air Force pilots don't land on a carrier, and navy plots don't fly 8 hour missions.

Go with Navy because I am going Air Force and do not want to embarass you.

The standards for the navy are much higher and the training is much better. Either one would be a huge accomplishment for most people.
