Somewhere, a long time ago, I read that walking briskly is much more effective in burning calories/fat than jogging or running. I don't really remember the source- does anyone know if this is true?

exactly the opposite.

the higher the intensity that exercise is performed at the more calories are expended during the training session. low intensity exercise does utilize more fatty acids for use as energy during the training session but the amount of fat that is utilized is very little. training at a high level of intensity burns more calories during the training session and provides the greatest increase in the metabolic rate after exercise. walking may only increase the metabolic rate for maybe 30 minutes where as running can elevate the metabolic rate for hours after exercise.

You can burn more calories in the same amount of time by jogging or running than you can by walking. Walking, however, is lower impact than jogging. If you are going a fixed distance (3 miles for example) you will burn about the same amount of calories whether you walk or jog that distance. You will just cover the ground faster if you jog.

Walking has always been better for the body than running or jogging. The pounding the body takes with the latter isn't worth it.

I found that I could walk further and longer than I could ever run or jog, so I kept it up.

I think you burn approximately the same number of calories per mile no matter how you get there (run, walk, crawl, hop, etc.). The difference is - running will get you there faster. Therefore, you'll burn more calories per minute if you run.
