Well...you can't say they don't do as they preach...maybe most professed Christians don't...and they ruin the reputation of many Christians by being hypocrites and doing what they are not supposed to do...but there are true Christians who apply what they have learned from the Bible and do to the best of their ability to imitate Christ Jesus...but we are all imperfect...and we all fall short and sin at times....so if you are looking for a Christian that has NEVER made a mistake in their life you won't find one, but there are those who practice what they preach.

Don't just blame Christians--all humans are like that. Don't do as I do, do as I say.
Parent tell their kids not to do drugs when they spent most of their teen and early 20's in oblivion.
Some parents still live that way.
Parent preach to their kids about not having sex when there wasn't a live person standing in the 60's, 70', or 80's (or what ever your generation) that you didn't do. Some parents still live that way.
Don't just push this off on the Christians.

Most are false "Christians". Jesus called the clergy of his day who were supposed to represent the true God "hypocrites". The same is true today. They preached their lies so often they no longer pay attention.

That is not to say there are not true Christians who live what they preach. Their objective is to bring themselves into harmony with God's viewpoint. It requires change from the ways and habits they once had.

I won't walk up to someone and say you shouldn't do that, but if they ask for my opinion, I will tell them what the word of God says. And sometimes it may not be something that I myself am living up to, but that doesn't make it any less true. I won't claim to be something I'm not, I know what is right and I don't always do the right thing, but that doesn't mean I can't encourage others. I guess people see that as hypocritical, but it's all in how you present yourself. You have to think and speak carefully and honestly, Christians are not perfect and I think if they reveal these imperfections instead of claiming to be saints, people would be much more receptive to them.

Jerry Falwell is one example:

Although he sometimes used the title "Doctor," Falwell held no earned doctorate.

Falwell was on both sides of libel cases. In 1984, he was ordered to pay gay activist Jerry Sloan $5,000 after losing a court battle. During a TV debate in Sacramento, California, Falwell denied calling the gay-oriented Metropolitan Community Churches "brute beasts" and "a vile and Satanic system" that will "one day be utterly annihilated and there will be a celebration in heaven."

When Sloan insisted he had a tape, Falwell promised $5,000 if he could produce it. Sloan did, Falwell refused to pay, and Sloan successfully sued. The money was donated to build Sacramento's first gay community center, the Lambda Community Center, serving "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex" communities.[35]

Falwell appealed the decision with his attorney charging that the judge in the case was prejudiced because the judge was Jewish[36]. He lost again and was made to pay an additional $2,875 in sanctions and court fees

In 1977 he supported Anita Bryant's "Save Our Children" campaign based on "Christian beliefs regarding the sinfulness of homosexuality and the perceived threat of homosexual recruitment of children and child molestation" in Dade County, Florida to repeal an ordinance that prohibited discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. In urging the repeal of the ordinance Falwell told one crowd "gay folks would just as soon kill you as look at you."[

Because they are human. Christians like to present their beliefs as the ONLY beliefs that represent the pathway to heaven. But they practice the same hypocritical actions that any member of any faith practice. That is simply human behavior. Don't do as I do, do as i say.

You've got the definition, now here's the word: "Hypocrite." Do as I say, not as I do. And the rules I lay down for you to abide don't pertain to me.

Kind of like our American government, but that's a different forum.
