I really can't afford to get my cat spayed at the moment, but she's in heat. Is there anything else I can do to make her more comfortable and take her mind off of being in heat?

Not much, check with local Humane Society or animal aid, sometimes they have programs that offer spay/neuter at a much reduced cost. This will happen over and over and over until spayed.

nothing but getting her spayed. Also cats are not like dogs with this. They are not in few 3 weeks then no heats for 6 mths. Cats can go into heat come out for 1 week then go back in and so on and so forth till she is pregnant or spayed.

"
Cat In Heat

All female cats (or queens) that have not been spayed will come in heat (or estrus) at stages in their lives. This may happen from as young as the age of 4 months and recur seasonally (usually summer seasons with more daylight). The cat stays in heat for normally 4-6 days and during the summer season will come in heat again every 2-3 weeks. These periods may vary widely. The cat will come out of heat and the cycles will end once the cat has mated or the season ends. After giving birth a female cat may come in heat again in as soon as 7 days although this usually happens after about 4 weeks."

It would be best for all involved if you find a low cost spay neuter program in your area.

OK this sounds a bit crazy but this is what happened to me once:
One of my cats went into heat early (most common to happen at 6 mos. & she was 4 mos.) so, I called my vet when all the yowling began and she had me bring her in.
Since the cat will not go out of heat until she finds a male or the particular cycle is over the vet actually "stimulated" kitty and low and behold she came of it a while later. I was able to have her fixed a few days later. Some of the vet assistants thought this was surprising so I guess this is not that common-but it worked! Some vets I think can actually give a shot to help kitty through it or even spay for an extra cost while she is in heat.
I would suggest calling your vets office and asking if they can help in any way. Good luck!!

The only thing you can do is get her spayed. Right now, her body is driving her up the wall.

You could try to keep her in the house until the heat is over- by which you hopefully could pay for spaying. Or you could take her to get spayed now, and lay your cards out on the table. Many vets will try to work a payment plan out with you, if you don't have the cash up front.

Good luck!

DO NOT let your cat outside!
First, I would contact your local humane society or animal control, as they probably have or will be able to recommend a low-cost spay.
Second, cat are induced ovulators. In other words, once the male cat's penis touches the female cat's cervix, it releases hormones making the female cat ovulate, which in turn will cause her to go out of heat. This can be accomplished at home (although I DO NOT, I said DO NOT recommend it) by lubricating a glass thermometer & inserting it into the cat's vulva.
Otherwise, you will just have to wait until she goes out of heat. Most vets will not spay when she is in heat anyway. Your BEST idea is to wait it out & again, DO NOT let her outside.

Nope nothing much. Just keep her inside so as she does not get pregnant. Nothing will take her mind off being in heat. She's going to cry and cry for several days (it will get louder) as she calls for the males.

The only way to stop this is to get her spayed. Can you put it on a credit card? If not I'm affraid you and kitty may have an unpleasent few days ahead of you.

We had the fun of going through that for 3 months. Stray mamacat went into heat 3 weeks after giving birth to kittens and we had to wait until her milk dried up to spay. Nothing I know of. You just have to bear it and do without something to get her spayed quickly. They are almost in continual heat until they mate again.

You're not going to take her mind off it, not going to make her any more comfortable. Cats are single minded when it comes to being in heat.
Either shut her up in a room that you can shut the door to, or let her go outside and have a litter of kittens. I don't think there is a third choice.

Get her on a list for reduced fee spaying and start saving. In So. Florida it's way less than 100 bucks. Check online for your local rescue groups. Many of them will include the rabies vaccine or other vaccines at drastically reduced prices.

here are 3 i can think of --learn to ignore her constant meowing (don't recomend)
find a teaser tom and let them at it (Dont worry your kitty wont end up having kitties this way, its like a male getting a vasectomy but only for a boy cat)
or take a qtip and well use it on the cat ..yes i mean like a boy cat would do. did not try this before got cat fixed but here it works
