It's always a good idea tp have a cat thoroughly checked out during the adoption process. Not just for colds but also for other stuff (toxoplasmosis, rabies, feline HIV, etc.)
It seems that the cat might have a simple cold. When I adopted mine, the same thing happened. She kept on sneezing all the time. But once she was settled in her new home, it took about two/three weeks for the sneezing to go away. I don't know whether that was a cold. It probably was. But she had already been checked out by a vet at the pound and so that way I was sure it wasn't anything serious. So I didn't really worry.

sounds like it has an Upper respiratory infection. There isn't much that can be done for this, like with human colds. The vet could give it antibiotics to ward off any secondary infections. If it is still eating and drinking, that is a very good sign. It is very contagious, the other probably caught it but just isn't showing signs yet.
I would take it to the vet though to be on the safe side, it might be something else. Most of us here don't have medical training to give you a definitive answer.

Yes, kitties do catch colds. I hope your friend is isolating the sick one from the healthy.
The sick kitten should be taken to the vet: Lethargy and coughing are also symptoms of a number of other far more serious conditions.
Good luck!

your kitten could have an upper respiratory infection which should be checked out because if left untreated can be fatal to kittens,, and cats dont usually get what we call "a cold"
