I've begun worshipping the Sun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see the Sun. It's there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, a lovely day. There's no mystery, no one asks for money, I don't have to dress up, and there's no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to God are all answered at about the same 50-percent rate.
In the Bullsh!t Department, a businessman can't hold a candle to a clergyman. 'Cause I gotta tell you the truth, folks. When it comes to bullsh!t, big-time, major league bullsh!t, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims: religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullsh!t story ever told.
Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you.
He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, but somehow he just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullsh!t story. Holy Sh!t!

Follow Jesus, then u cant go wrong! If ur searching for a church i would suggest you compare it with the Bible. If the church follows biblical principles in every situation then its a good church.
But seriously, the most important thing u need to do is follow the example of Christ!!
God Bless

Do you have a bible? Do you know how to think and read critically? Are you a critical thinker? Do you know how to pray to God? If you've answered yes to any of these, you'll probably do much better to be a loner. If you feel the need for a church, go with a non-denominational one whose pastor has a day job and the inside isn't adorned with all kinds of images and statues of religious icons. Also, no American flag with a gold fringe around its perimeter.

May I suggest that any attempt to figure this out by youself would be, by definition, faith in yourself.
Admit this is too much for you. Admit that there is absolutely no chance that you will figure out the truth. Admit that reading the Bible and every other religious book in the world will not help you figure this out. Admit that there is no way you could do that in a life time anyway.
Then when you fully realize your own short comings in this matter - pray. Have faith in God's. Seek and ye shall find.

Islam. i think of Mama gave a very special answer; i've got not greater to function, yet do have the desire to make a minor correction to a distinctive poster: Halal is somewhat much less strict than Kashrut. those that stick to Islamic nutritional regulations can consume Kosher, yet those that stick to Jewish nutritional regulations would have a undertaking with some Halal ingredients or practise.

Hi Ron, yes it can be confusing but i wouldn't say any of these are a sect..more denominations.
My own belief; if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, you will be saved. The denomination is the confusing part, and isn't relevant to your salvation..
Church attendance is a choice..if you are seeking after truth, Jesus said "I am the way the truth and the life" He is only prayer away..ask and He will guide you.~~Shalom~~ xx

There is no true path -Christian or not which can lead to a person's 'salvation'. Who knows some of the atheists might gain it too - but only if their hearts and minds are pure enough. Good luck to everyone. But remember the only true Salvation can come from within ourselves. Then we have to ask,,,,,Salvation from WHAT?? Surely only spiritual evolution is the answer for ALL?

You are correct, it is a minefield. Start with my study below. Jesus prophesied the coming 7 major religions and gave His report card.

Here is a synopsis of your list...
Amish - Too communal. Do you want to move to Penn?
Roman Catholic - Man is the foundation (too much sand)
http://schnebin.blogspot.com/2007/04/catholic-vs-christian.html
Jehovah Witness - So twisted they need their own bible.
http://schnebin.blogspot.com/2007/05/new-world-translation-errors.html
South Baptist - Depends on the church really.
Pentacostal - Too much emphasis on the emotional (for me)-but not bad-really depends on the individual church.
Protestants - Depends on the church and their statement of faith.
Mormons - Believe the Bible is incomplete and requires addendum.

The best church for salvation could be as close as your own room with a good Bible. Read the book of John and ask God to reveal His heart to you.

Since it is the Bible that tells us of Jesus Christ and since it also claims to be the word of God it will be your only true and reliable guide to salvation.
It is Jesus Christ Whom you must follow, not some church or denomination or cult or any of those you list.

I understand your dilemma man! Religion has secularised and has gotten too spiritual. Try praying and ask God for his help in making a decision. remember God saved us with his love for us. John 3:16 "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten son , in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life."John 8: 32 "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free"
