Ge'ez, the liturgical language. Amharic the generally spoken language, Tigrinya, Coptic, Arabic, English and Italian are also quite widely understood/spoken. That's not to exclude Hebrew as well....

Yes, Amharic. Difficult to learn. There is no crash course available. But if you ever get to Ethiopia and manage to get a visa to get out of Addis into real Ethiopia you will see terrible things that will make you unable to speak anyway.
