I think it's just the breed, but one of her eyes weeps a bit. I've just been cleaning it off with a cotton ball and water. I read somewhere that if you change their food that can help and also that there are herbal remedies for it, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Did you buy from a good breeder? If so, call them and ask about it. They'll be happy to help.

Otherwise, talk to your vet next time you are there.

Actually the main reason is blocked tear ducts which run from the eye to the nose. Often in smaller breeds these are blocked but 99% non painful. Sometimes your vet may be able to flush these under sedation however unless you are getting conjunctivitis too it is more of a cosmetic treatment. Bad news is if the tear duct openings are narrow or non-existent then re-blockage can occur quickly thereafter. If there is minor conjunctivitis strongly brewed cold tea a few times a day to bathe the eye can be quite soothing and chamomile tea is even better

I have a chihuahua and she has clear discharge too. All chihuahuas get eye boogers, as for the discharge. Is it a lot of discharge or is it normal? What do you think it is? As far as i have known, clear equals good. Happy wiping.

I have three chi's a 2 year old 13 year old and 20 year old all of them have some clear discharge from their eyes and they have no medical problems. But still check with your vet and ask them just to make sure she does not have allergies or eye problems

It's perfectly normal so just wipe it off with a damp cloth. They're small so they get a lot of dust and stuff in their eyes and usually have watery or glassy eyes.
