I find myself to be agnostic, i believe that i dont know whether or not there is a god. I cant decide on whether to believe or to not believe. Does an "i dont know" sound like a negative assertion..making me an atheist?
im confused and indecisive..is that how agnostics are supposed to be?!

There isn't really a social stigma of being an atheist so long as you don't go around telling people not to say the pledge. And yeah, it's okay to be confused. Most scientists seem to be agnostics.

No, an agnostic doesn't know if there is a God or spirits or not. An atheist makes an act of faith to deny that there is a god or anything or anyone like that.
" I don't know" can be an honest answer, but one should continue to examine the possibilities and benefits of an answer to The Question( "What is the meaning, purpose and challenge of life?"). I would not find agnosticism emotionally or in any other way satisfying or a fulfillment in life and I do not find atheism mathematically probable or morally or in most senses practical.

It's really a question of Belief vs. Knowledge.

Gnostic/Agnostic deals with KNOWLEDGE.
Theist/Atheist deals with BELIEF

Here are the four possible choices:

Gnostic Theist: I BELIEVE there is a god, and I KNOW there is a god.

Gnostic Atheist: I BELIEVE there is no god, and I KNOW there is no god.

Agnostic Theist: I BELIEVE there is a god, but I don't KNOW there is a god.

Agnostic Atheist: I BELIEVE there is no god, but I don't KNOW there is no god.

Class dismissed...

No. Atheists say "there is no God", agnostics say "it is impossible to know for sure whether or not there is a God". Agnostic theism or an agnostic atheism are both rational positions, with the latter more common than the former.

Here's a simple definition of an agnostic. He (or she) does not know whether or not there is a God, and doesn't believe anyone else knows either. Ok?

An agnostic is either an atheist or a theist.

Atheist-agnostic: Absence of belief in a god or gods.
Atheist-gnostic: "Knows there is no God."

Theist-agnostic: Belief in a god or gods.
Theist-gnostic(/fundie): "Knows there is a God."

Clear enough for you?

I actually think there is more stigma around being agnostic because you're not set in one way and more people try to convert you. Agnostics are not atheists in disguise, they simply aren't sure of what to believe in.

i am very skeptical, i don't believe the bible as truth and i don't believe the stories in the bible really happened. i call myself agnostic because i believe i cannot know if gods exist or not. i'm not confused or indecisive, i just don't have the evidence to make that conclusion and until that happens (which is very unlikely) i will live my life for me and no one else.

Saying you don't know makes you an agnostic. Saying, "I know there is no God" makes you atheist.

it doesn't matter .. the agnostics i've spoken to seem like they *want* to find god.. but dont know how.. or whatever.

If you feel like you want to find him.. then study other religions and decide for yourself. ..
If you are just curious about other religions.. then still read about them. If you already know many.. then good for you.

But if you are completely satisfied with your life and where you are.. then this shouldn't be bothering you. If your not sure about god.. but are happy.. then what does it matter ?

good luck
