I know this has been asked a million times. But MY question is HOW do I get a summer job? I'm totally confused. I already have a resume because I made one a couple years ago (i updated it recently). Do I go in person and give companies my resume? Do I look in the Help Wanted section of newspapers? Or do I just go into stores/restaraunts and ask if they'd like a teenager? Or do I apply online??? I really am totally confused!

I want to start working in early July. Do you think that's too late?

I'm already aware of the child labor laws and stuff in my state. My only question is *how* to find and acquire a job. Someone please answer this for me.

Thanks! :)

I just got my first job yesterday! This is how I did it:

1) Go to a local area with lots of fast food and shops. Find places as close to home as possible with gas at 3.59/ gallon!

2) Ask for an application at as many stores as possible; count on 80% of your applications being ignored. (Harsh I know, but it's a competitive world out there!)

3) Fill out every application. Use a blue or black ink pen and very, very neat handwriting. Try not to leave anything blank and mention extracirricular and volunteer activities!

4) Wait for a response. (This is the HARDEST part!) If nothing happens in a week or so, try online job sites. The best one for part-time summer jobs is www.snagajob.com . Also, go back to businesses and ask them how your application is coming along.

5) If you are interviewed, dress in your Sunday best and arrive 5 minutes early. Be as professional as humanly possible (avoid bad grammar, chewing gum, leaving your cell phone on, etc.)

6) Pray for the best and something will happen! Good Luck :)

P.S: If your looking for something starting in June, you may want to wait a little longer. People will quickly forget about your application! Also, resumes are not really required for a summer job...that's more for a carrer ;)

Go to the places you wish you could get a job. Then fill out an application and give your resume with it. It's not easy at first... but you have to go where you want to get a job. And always have a positive attitud.
You can go to monsters.com and apply for jobs in your area downloading your resume on the internet.
Good luck!!

Check the newspaper ads and careerbuilder.com, also try indeed.com too. But when you check the ads in the paper make that number of copies of your resume and take them in person and fill out the application. Dress for the occasion, first impressions are everything... OH... also try your local state employment commission or staffing agencies, you can usually get really good jobs with them...GOOD LUCK GIRL
