How do you pronounce the word "fout" as in 'wrong'? To rhyme with "boot", "bout" or something completely different?

[The reason I ask is that I've been reading Simon Kuper's "Ajax: The War Years", talking about the Netherlands and World War 2, where the word comes up quite a bit]

In Dutch it is pronounced f-out as if it were the English "ou" sound in cow, house, now, and how, just a bit longer. In Afrikaans it would be pronounced more as an "oa" as in boat, coat or note.
Hope that helps.

Fout is pronounced as in "bout". The word "fout" as used in your book, means wrong not in the sense of making a mistake, but in the sense of collaborating in some way with the Germans - the enemy. You could say it's a bit of a eufemism for "traitor" in that sense.
