i know many wiccans personally and know many online, and so many use aspects of the wolf in their magickal name, or imagery like their avatars. why is this?

i'm pagan (eclectic witch with some wiccan flare) and tend to identify with the dragon myself

Some seem to truly identify with the Wolf, but sometimes people choose totems that they view as powerful to identify with, if it is really appropriate or not. Some animal guides seem more powerful to some people than others. All of the animal guides have thier own strengths, but some view those with a reputation for being predators as more powerful. Actually one should be open to see what animal guides choose you. Mine are mouse, swan, and spider. Animal speak by Ted Andrews is a good book about the different animals.....

I don't identify with the wolf. My totem is really the cat. Although the cricket is also an aspect of me.

I am a Solitary Eclectic Wiccan.

In the circle of Wiccans I know, some identify with the dragon, some with the wolf some with birds of prey etc. My totem is the wolf, wolves speak to me in a special way just like the dragons do to you.

It depends on which "brand" of Wicca you're talking about.
A lot of wiccans follow an animistic path, and therefore they find the wolf, which is the teacher totem is a great ally to have.
Some like the dragon, as the dragon is more along the Celtic line of thought.. some have other totems with which they find an affinity.

The wolf is a powerful symbol. Smart and quick. But gentle and calming. As humans we tend to float to things that are similar to us. A dog, just like us, is a social animal so we can identify with them. The dragon is an odd choice. I would say that you have a presence most people recognize but like to hide it when in a room of many. Also you have a rough exterior (im not talking about looks) and a soft interior. Am I close. Pagan you say, i bet you r alot of fun in more ways then one also.

(I'm not Wiccan) but I do practice witchcraft and I identify with the wolf because it's a powerful symbol. The wolf represents, loyalty, strength, love, power, family, etc...I also identify with the Raven, a messenger as well as being loyal to its mate.

hi, hon. enable's take a step back and seem at familiars. initially the thought-approximately usual got here from Christianity. They believed it became an evil spirit disguised as an animal that an evil devil-worshipping witch despatched out to do her bidding. in the different case, the witch could become that animal. interior the twentieth century, the hot Age movment began taking treating the "usual" like a definite puppy of Witches. That became the pop way of existence photograph of the witch and the same old. In Wicca, there extremely isn't any thought-approximately "usual" different than you're completely allowed to have faith in them in any way you notice in high-quality condition. In Wicca, we are allowed to have faith in a great sort of issues-- i could have faith in massive Foot, or in zombies or extraterrestrial beings or familiars-- yet that doesn't advise any of those ideals are an area of Wicca. they do no longer seem to be specially a Wiccan coaching, so while you're waiting for a Wiccan source that tells you approximately familiars, you're unlikely to come across a valid one. i individually don't think in familiars, no longer interior the unique experience or interior the trendy experience; i think of having a connection to animals is in basic terms that-- having an emotional connection to animals. i think of there are animal spirit courses yet they're 2 very diverse suggestions. and that i ought to make sparkling, that it is my have faith even if it is likewise no longer a everyday Wiccan coaching or particular to Wicca.

I Don't know that they do actually, but it brings up a interesting theory!
Wolves can be solitary or part of a pack.....So to can a Wiccan exist as a solitaire or as part of a coven....
Also they have been persecuted nearly into extinction, only to come back with a vengeance, like the Pagans!
Dragons too have been extinct for a long time......Do you hope as I do that they resurface one day?!
Blessings!

LOL
Is this about me? ^_^

My Spirit Guide is a Wolf, that's why I love the Wolf so Much.

I think it is Mostly Because the Wolf is supposed to be a Mysterious animal, and used in "Neo-shamanism" (A poor attempt at Native American Shamanism) Allot, and the Wolf is a familiar animal to pretty much everyone, Powerful and graceful, brave and gentile.

It would be hard not to like them :)

Strange - I've known many Wiccans - & only my Ex has any (loose) connection to a Wolf [& if you ask me it's more Coyotee/Loki related].

Just enforces the diverse approach in Wicca.
