Ka makes cars but they are not dependable or reliable. They are poorly made and are of poor quality. The Rio and Spectras are the worst Transmission /engine problems). All Kias are plagued with AC problems and electrical malfunctions. I used to work at a Kia store as a service adviser and I have never seen so many problems due to quality. Kia still has a long way to go.

The 2007 Consumer Reports guide rates all the newest Kia models as having "average" reliability except the Kia Sportage, which got a "much worse than average" rating.
Although Kia is owned by Hyundai, it seems that Hyundai cars are still better built. Perhaps consider looking at Hyundais before Kias. There's nothing Kia offers that Hyundai doesn't for around the same price, and they both have the same excellent warranties.

Kia's quality has improved dramatically in recent years but they have still have some quality issues on some models (Sportage & Sedonna). Some newer models such as the Amati are very sound and trouble-free.
the best place to go for quality information is the J.D. Power and Associates website
www.jdpa.com
they do the Initial Quality Study and Vehicle Reliability Study that cover most vehicle models. The Initial Quality Study is on new vehicles; the Vehicle Reliability Study is on vehicles that are older and have more miles on them. The amount of published information on the model depends on how long its been around.
