English Christian tradition uses masculine pronouns when referring to God. Other languages sometimes differ from this convention. Greek, for example, categorize the Father and the Son as masculine, but the Spirit as neuter.

For those who quote Genesis 1:26, usually translated "God made man in his image and likeness," the actual original word is anthropos, which is a gender-neutral term, equivalent to "person".

Note: the oldest Greek text of the Torah is almost a thousand years older than the oldest Hebrew text, and so, to me, has more authority.

Men wrote a large majority of ancient literature, including the Bible. Women have been (and still are) regarded by most societies as the "lower gender". 2) that isn't funny or sensible, as most people don't view the creator as the universe itself...

Mainly because everything was man. A woman wasn't worth much at this time and everything done was done by man. So god of course was referred to as man. It don't sound right calling it an it.

Yes, thank you for pointing that out in such a colourful way.

I find people get irritated when I refer to god as 'it', and anyway, 'he' is simply a convenience.

Your pun is too pungent.
