INDIA, 11 May 2000 (Newsroom) – Six Christian missionaries participating in a gospel campaign called "Love Ahmedabad" were beaten so savagely in the state of Gujarat last week that one of the men may lose his arms and legs.

Members of the Hyderabad-based Operation Mobilization (OM) were distributing Bibles and religious tracts in Ahmedabad, about five miles from Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, the afternoon of May 5 when they were attacked by members of the Hindu extremist groups Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Operation Mobilization ships tons of Christian literature around the country. The assailants also burned copies of the Bible and tracts.

Christian missionaries beaten in public for 'converting' Hindus

Television channels showed Hindu activists kicking and punching the two young priests while dragging them through Maharashtra's Kolhapur town.

News footage showed an activist knee one priest in the groin, making him double up in pain. Another kicked the missionary in the head. The crowd accused the priests of forcibly converting poor Hindus, and handed them over to police.

I think it's sad, but you know what? Those missionaries put themselves in that situation rather than minding their own business.

Umm, no, it was an isolated incident. The article was from May of 2000. Meaning that Hindus aren't running around beating people week after week or month after month, nor are they declaring Jihad every other week, nor do they bomb something every other week, etc.... If the Hindus were doing that sort of thing weekly, or at least often - then they would be considered terrorists.

Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad are extremist groups. They are called "extremist" for several reasons, mostly having to do with their radical views.

They are just like the radical groups here, nobody but their followers really like them.

I am with you. Why would anyone commit violence against Christian missionaries? Hate them, sure. Be disgusted with them, sure. But be violent toward them? That is too christian-like for my comfort zone.
