I am hosting a small get together (Fruit, cheese and wine sampling) and absolutely hate bitter wine. (Even White Zinfindel is too bitter for my palette.) I wanted to get something for myself, but most wines are not as tasty as I would like. I would prefer to just drink some good dark ales, but I am in the minority here.

I want something very sweet. I just might have to use grape juice if I can't find something else and just "pretend."

Never "pretend" and stay away from White Zin. There are many sweet or dessert wines that you may want to consider for your gathering. Here are a few of my favorites...

Muscat it is a sweet and fruity dessert wine made from Muscat grapes. Don't confuse it with Muscadet, which is a dry white wine. Orange Muscat is also good.

Late Harvest wines are sweet as are Riesling, Chenin Blanc (my fave) Port or Gewürztraminer all very enjoyable.

Cheers!

If you want truly sweet wine, try Manischewits., or Mogan David. They will have a variety of flavors and these are very, very sweet. Think cough syrup sweet. Cut it with a little spritzer of 7-Up and it will still be plenty sweet. Cost is about 3-4 bucks a bottle.

No its not fancy but you will have more fun consuming something you can stand. I used to be strictly sweet homemade wine type but now make a number of popular wines. Non of them are particularly sweet but with a meal that do add something and I am just learning. When I just want to drink, I go for beer.

A good Canadian or German 'Ice Wine'. It's a very sweet, dessert wine. It's more expensive than other wines, due to the process by which it's produced. So, intend on spending around $30.

hopefully your neighborhood enoteca has a varied supply of vino. There are lots of sweet table wine (try Black Diamond) that you can procure. Have a sip before purchasing a bottle. Or you can get some red/white wine and make Sangria for the ladies :) Very sweet!

Go to a store with a wide selection of wines and ask for a good "dessert wine." Barring that, I'd suggest that you go with a Riesling. They're typically lighter and sweeter than most wines -- even moreso than zinfandel.

Try a riesling. It is a very fruity and sweet dessert wine.
