Indo stands for India. Indo-European means, something both India and Europe are doing in collaboration and same goes for Indo-Chinese.

"Indo" would be referring to the area north of India, which was occupied by various Nomadic groups from both Europe and China-like the Tocharians who pushed out the inhabitants of the Tarim basin, only to be pushed out later themselves.
