In the Old testament, the Jews sacrificed an unblemished lamb. It was Jewish law. In the New Testament, the old law was abolished, and Jesus Christ was the only unblemished "lamb" of God, which he sacrificed for our sins. I do not have the mind of God, but what little I know about Him, I know he would never ask anyone else to ever sacrifice their child.

God never asked Abraham to sacrifice his son. This was a custom at the time and Abraham was doing what he thought God wanted him to do. God stopped this practice and Abraham was willing to trust God and to go against the practices of the time even though it probably caused others to criticize him and to accuse him of not loving God.
We sacrifice animals to eat them. You must be a vegetarian. But then we sacrifice vegetables, which are alive before we pick them.

It was a shadow of things to come. Reminding them that they were sinners and neede a ransom to get free. It foreshadowed Jesus as the "Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world". John 1: 29
Proof of this is found in Hebrews 10: 1-4 in a better way than I can write.

In the Old testament an unblemished lamb was sacrificed. I suppose at that time, if you knew some little lamb had to suffer for your sins, would you not try and do less sins? But since Christ became the perfect sacrifice, once and for all, we crucify Him again, if we keep on sinning and not ask forgiveness from Him.
