Since you are wanting to lose weight then cardio is the thing to do. Lifting will make you stronger but as you lose weight you might not see much if any improvement in strenght. As you lose weight you will also lose some muscle. After you lose to the weight you want then cut down or cut out the cardio and then you will start becoming stronger. Cardio breaks down muscle so you will have to watch it to meet you goal. Also watch your diet as it is more than 50% of meeting your goal.
Also you said that you don't care about looks only getting stronger. Do low reps with heavy weight. Do 4 to 6 reps. 5 sets. More reps will add size instead.

If you are just starting you may see a drop in pounds, up to 10 or more the first week or to. That's just your body adjusting to the new routine and mostly water weight and toxins leaving the body.
Eventually you will either maintain your current weight or gain more than 215 depending on how much you decide you want to "bulk up". Incorporating cardio into your exercise routine will help burn fat and keep your heart healthy. Muscle will ALWAYS weigh more than fat. But if you aren't concerned about your overall weight, then don't worry.

Since muscle weighs more than fat you could very well grow muscle and cut fat, and end up the exact same weight you are now. Since muscle isn't dead weight like fat you will feel lighter and better even if you do remain at 215. A lot of it will also depend on your diet. If you get serious there are all sorts of tailored diets for weight lifters depending on your goals. Muscle and Fitness magazine is a good source for recipes and more advanced exercises, if you reach that point.

Hoodia is currently the most publicized and talked about natural weight loss supplement in America . It has been featured on CBS 60 Minutes, ABC, NBC Today, BBC, CNN, in Oprah's “O” Magazine and in other major media.

Actually, milepost211 is wrong. Muscle weighs MORE than fat, not less. You should watch inches, not pounds if you are going to be lifting because it could feel discouraging to you if you don't see the pounds coming off. Regardless, doing cardio will melt fat.

Dude, Muscle weighs more than fat. The first six weeks of lifting are going to be when you notice your biggest gains. The more muscle you have, the more you weigh-even if you are burning calories by running

Your body will firm up. The fatty tissue will be turned to muscvle. Muscle weighs less than fat. You should lose weight and feel alot better if you lose 20lbs.

cardio burns fat and muscle - so you will lose
weightlifting builds muscle - so you will gain
if you do both - you will gain muscle and lose fat (then you have to do cardio 4-6 times a week for 30-50min)

both..muscle is heavier than fat...so you will gain muslce pounds as you replace fat..
if you lift lite weights and do more reps..you will get leaner/fitter/liter..
if you do power lifting..you will get more mass and really strong..
i lift for power..so i got mass but lost my fat..
but i still run everyday and lift..i just lift/max out on heavier weights...
