Give within your budget, and what your heart says you should. $20-50 is nice, more if you can, if he is a great student, and/or going to college.
Or, give what you can now, and send him something later on that you think would be helpful: more money, a gift card for music, food, gas, school supplies, cookies. I would be thrilled to get an unexpected windfall in the mail. You could hint that more is coming, or let it be a surprise.

That depends on your relationship to the graduate...family or friend? Are you close, or is this the child of a friend? What can you afford?
I'd like to suggest a gift card instead of cash if you are unsure. That's a little more personal if you want to go for a smaller amount. Maybe a bookstore that also carries music cd's and magazines?

Depends on your relationship to them and what they plan on doing after high school.
Say your their Aunt or Uncle & the kid plans on going to college, you could give them a target gift card with say about 50-200 on it to buy supplies and stuff then need for college dorm life :)
I would deffinatly say a gift card is better than cash!!

Check the cost of books for his first term freshman year at college. If you're anyone other than the parent, divide by three and give that to him.
(With the cost of books these days, that's still going to be about $200. Wouldn't you just rather buy him a sports watch or an ipod?)

i think 20 to 50 is good, and you should give them gift cards from target, or walmart.
