In simple terms:
When innuendo is used in a sentence, it could go completely undetected by someone who was not familiar with the hidden meaning, and he or she would find nothing odd about the sentence. Perhaps because innuendo is not considered offensive to those who do not "get" the hidden implication.
an example: A man is standing at a gas station. A voluptous woman in a sleek Ferrari pulls in. He says, "Nice curves you have there." He means her curves, but the woman can mistake it for the curves of the Ferrari.
A woman goes to a supermarket and is buying melons. A man approaches her and says, "Those are nice melons you have" He could mean the real melons or he could be alluding to her breasts.
That is an innuendo

Nudge nudge, wink wink, know what I mean, know what I mean, say no more, say no more! A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat!
