i'm moving and trying to get rid of a lot of stuff. can i just throw away this kind of stuff? i don't feel right throwing all this stuff away but most of it is broken and old...
what can i do?

As someone who can't bear to just throw stuff like that away either, I can offer a few suggestions:
- Sell the working electronics on ebay. It doesn't matter how old they are, someone out there is still willing to buy.
- You can try selling the broken stuff on ebay as well since some people are good at fixing things or may buy broken electronics for scrap parts. Don't expect to get very much money though.
- You can donate everything else to charity. I used to volunteer at goodwill, they'll take *anything* (I once saw a box with a bunch of used pacifiers and bottle nipples come through). They may just turn around and throw it away in the dumpster out back, but they'll still take it (and you still get a tax writeoff).
- Alternatively you can hold a yard sale. You probably won't be able to get rid of everything, but it will help clear out a good portion of the stuff (and nobody expects to get working a computer monitor at a yard sale for $5. but they'll buy it anyway just incase).
- Finally you can see about recycling, and then throw away whatever is left. For kicks you can leave all the electronics at the curb side for a week and watch as they gradually disappear before trash pickup.

Many communities has electronics recycling several times a year. Also, some towns are starting to pick up electronics on recycling days.

If it is broken, you can always give away or use the pieces to make something new. If it is old, not broken, keep using it! Or you can donate it where you can drop off clothes to shelters. It would do them good.. and you can feel good about yourself.

Electronic waste is considered hazardous. You can check with your city's department of public works or sanitation to find out where you can safely dispose of electronics.

I understand that technical/vocational schools and some community colleges are happy to have these. I'd look at it as a donation and that way it won't be going to a landfill.

try your local freecycle and also see if there is a recycle place near you for electronics we have one here in indy

if it's broken so it no longer works, throw it out, otherwise i'd donate it to Slavation Army/goodwill/habitat for humanity
