Hey, I currently have Microsoft Word 2003 installed on my PC and I would like to know how one updates to 2007? Does it involve purchasing the 2007 edition which I am inclinded to believe or can I simply update my exisiting Microsoft 2003 Office to 2007 without additional cost? If so where can I go to do this as so far on the Microsoft site I have met with no success but rather only payment plans for Office 2007

Gathering the information from the way you asked this question, i come to two conclusions. You know nothing about this software package in which case, Microsoft Office 2003 would do sufficiently well for the majority of things that one would do with it. Upgrading it would be a waste of money, unless ofcourse you have a lot of money to spend...in which case, why would you upgrade anyhow rather than buying new! Analogy: buying a Lamborghini / Ferrarri when you travel only 2 km a day. Second conclusion is that you are asking just for the sake of testing out this site and the genuinity of the people who takes the time to answer the questions. If the second is valid, then you don't deserve an answer. I don't mean to be rude or arrogant though. Just making my point clear.

You have to buy the software. It's not like iTunes where you download the latest version. If you're going to buy new word processing software, you might as well buy Office 2007 since it's top of the line right now and will before about half a decade.

I'm afraid you can't upgrade your 2003 for free. The upgrade version is cheaper than a full vers, but there is no free upgrade. Just the way Microsoft does business....but then again, that's the way most major software companies do business...

You don't need to buy the full package if you have one version already installed in your computer. What you do is, buy an upgrade version to update what you have. This is a lot cheaper than buying the full package. You need to buy the upgrade version. It doesn't cost very much. This applies to all software installed in your computer. You can upgrade what you have to the latest edition provided you have the full package already installed.

Alternatively you could download Open Office which is very similar to MS Office, even the interfaces look practically the same. It's free to download and all upgrades are free.

Why do you want to upgrade to 2007? Personally, I use 2002 and it does everything I need.

This MS link shows each version and whether an upgrade is available and the cost. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/FX101754511033.aspx There are so many different versions you could have or could upgrade to I thought it would be easier to direct you here rather than go back and forth with Q&As. :)

You best bet is to go to Staples and them if there are any additional costs. although I don't think so.
