he planned to be a preacher. so, does he get off the hook religiously for this horrific crime? of course, if he repents, i know the drill, but the little baby can't repent her burn scars away or the emotional damage, or the fact that she will never have her father in her life

how can this actually be the way things are? and christians ask why people don't believe in god? is this case a good enough reason?

"will the man who recently microwaved his baby still get into heaven?"
I don't know, I'm not God.

"does he get off the hook religiously for this horrific crime?"
I assume you think he shouldn't. If so, where's the cut off point for those who should and shouldn't go to heaven? Exactly how much damage should person A be able to do to person B before you think they should reach the point of being unable to be forgiven?

"the little baby can't repent her burn scars away or the emotional damage, or the fact that she will never have her father in her life"
While I haven't, and probably never will, face as much pain in my life as she has, I have enough experience with it to know that while I cannot control the circumstances in my life, I can control my reactions to those circumstances: I can either give in and give up or I can get up and go on.

"is this case a good enough reason?"
On the contrary, it's good reason to believe that God does exist. Examine your response to this story and ask yourself whether it is consistent with atheism. For example, you sound angry about what happened. Yet how can you really be angry when one of the philosophical implications of atheism is that one's emotions- indeed, one's entire personality- are merely the byproducts of chemical reactions? You just feel that what the guy did was wrong because the neurons in your brain reacted a certain way to the words you read (that is, if atheism is true). Furthermore, what are you upset over? If atheism is true, we (and, by extension, she) have no real "self", but are merely a bunch of chemicals, however highly organized, that have somehow developed the illusion of consciousness. Finally, while you seem to decry the injustice of this man possibly being able to escape hell by repenting, then atheism must be even more unjust. Even if we were to torture him (no, I'm not advocating this) from now until his death, once he's dead, that's it. He receives the same end as anyone else, regardless how good or evil. Speaking of which, should Buddhism be true, then what he did really isn't evil, since evil is just an illusion.

Hearing a story like this makes me cringe. I do understand, though, how many people see this and wonder, "How could God let this happen?"

This is why we need to pray ever more deeply. This is why we need God more than ever. It seems the world has become so debased in sin that the worst things human beings can do to each other are happening every day on the news. "Why?" It is because we have left Him that created us. We aren't following Him anymore. I don't know the whole story for why that man did that, but all I can do is pray that he is healed and even more so for the baby. It's the same thing with the mothers who've recently made the news for killing their children.

We need prayer. We need repentance. We need GOD.

Take care, and God bless.

First of all "every" voice that someone hears, is not always GOD, even when "the voice" says that it is. If you know anything about God you would know that HE would not tell a father to burn his child. NO he is not off the hook- even if he confessed and was truly repentant- there would be consequences. Don't look at who God is through the eyes of some person who kills his child, look to the Christians that truly represent Christ, which there are many if you want to look. PLEASE do not use this tragedy to make God look bad- the father did the crime

I didn't realize when I heard about this that the father was only 19. What is it with these kids? We have a story here in upstate NY about a girl (18) who gave birth in the bathroom, then threw the baby into the trash. They can't figure out if the baby took a single breath, which would make it a murder charge, so she basically gets off on a misdemeanor and a short jail stay.

I think we can safely say that God did NOT tell him to do that. What he claims is irrelevant. He has no credibility.
As for heaven, he may still make it in. But it will require a major correction in his heart and actions. He will still have to deal with the consequences of his actions here on earth, but there is still hope for him.
He will have to come to terms within himself in his realization that he is a sinner and is doomed as a result. Then he will have to repent for real, and by this I don't mean paying lip service. He has to truely do it. I suspect that true repentance would drive him to restitution for what he has done. He also must turn to Christ for forgiveness as well as to the child. He must offer forgiveness to any who have done wrong to him as well, and finally he must change his life to follow Christ's teachings.
If he truely can do these things without faking (he won't be able to fool God), then he may yet find himself in heaven.
He is only 19. There is yet much good he can do.
As for the child. How she copes with this harsh start in her life will be up to her. She may blame God (although God did not do it to her) or she may turn to God. The choice will be hers, but the person she becomes will undoubtedly be influenced by this incident. It would be interesing to see down the road if this makes her stronger or bitter.

what this man did has nothing to do with God. No one forced him to do what he did.He has a free will to do either good or evil and in this case he chose evil. And as for him getting into heaven that depends if hes truly sorry for what he did to that poor child and repents from his heart. But God will be the ultimate judge and only He can read this mans heart to see if hes really repented from this terrible sin. I myself am to judge no one. What other people do should not keep you from God.

There is something odd about the story. The guy gets his vision or whatever and moves from Arkansas to Galveston, TX. As soon as he gets there, he goes berserk and microwaves his kid. What strikes me as odd is that there is a Shriner's Burn Center for children in Galveston. I am wondering if the guy went down to Galveston with the intention of burning the kid and with the intention of the kid getting fast medical help. That still equals crazy psycho monster but I am curious.

he should have to pay for plastic surgery for the baby when this little kid grows up (from what i gathered it survived??) yes and thrown to the lions.. he should have atleast 50 years but my opinion is life in prison because thats just messed up..think of the agony it would have gone through as microwaves cook food from the inside out.. he should have to undergo community service and he should walk a mile in the babys shoes (although they wouldnt fit) throw him in a mass microwave and put him on 50:00 till done

I highly doubt that he will be forgiven because if he was trying to become a preacher, he knew right from wrong and he is a wicked person for doing that to his child. God will be the decision maker and he judges people based on their heart conditions. Just because someone wants to become a preacher, pastor whatever, doesn't mean they will be automatically forgiven in God's eyes
