I think religion is a big factor in most wars. We have the religions saying they are living the right way, that other civilians are nasty people because they dress a certain way(showing arms, etc.), they want to make their religion rule all of the world(which will never happen), and even with the bombings that are happening- these people who are doing this really think they are doing it for God and they think they will come back here as someone else. I hate it that so many people are deceived :((

After reading the above answers, I am stunned to see how many people, still wish to blame religion for everything negative! Further, it actually disgust me to see the level of intolerance found in the world!
People - Wars are fought, no matter what the textbooks say, both parties always lose. The very idea that a God would request violence is absolutly retarded! The truth of everything is that people start wars, people kill each other, people are the root of all problems.
To take this scenario further, it simply is not people, rather, it is the ignorance of the people! While common sense should prevail, while human life should be sacred, while people should work together for the greater good - they don't, they expand idiotic concepts and twist them until they reveal their own interpretation.
Religion is a concept people, loving one another can be a way of life.
If we all stop for one minute, ignore everything that has been ingrained in us, we can see that God would only want us to work together, to live in peace, to reach the very highest of human potential.

Religion is not the source of any war, puddin'.
Wars are fought only Only ONLY because of issues relating to population pressure. These include (but are not limited to) famine, shortage of resources, arable land, trade and access to potable water.
Sure, the poor young idiots who fight and die in wars are frequently deluded into believing that they are fighting a "Holy War" or a "War to Make Men Free" or even a "War to End War", but the reality (which is all the old bastards who start wars really care about) is far more pragmatic ... we need what they've got and we aim to take it.
Those who start wars do so on the presumption that they will win. In the offing, they are wrong more than half the time (see "Pyrrhic victory" at www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrrhic_victory )
But "religion" is only an excuse, a sham, a lie told to the schlubs who are bound to die.
Hope that clears it up for you.

Intolerance is the cause of most wars.
People are intolerant of a number of things, and often times this includes religion. Politics is usually the main cause, however. Religion and politics are often interconnected, as is evidenced in the world today. The Taliban attacked the US because of political issues, but their politics is their religion. There is fighting within the US because the religious right is pushing Christian issues through political channels. The line is often blurred, but rest assured that, even without religion, there would be enough intolerance to start wars.

Religions are the pretext. Greed is the source. And in maximum of those examples you have pronounced, religious differences have been an argument. for occasion: - Atheist Russia v. Christian Europe/usa. - Atheist Castro v. Catholic Batista - Christian Czars v. Atheist Lenin - Slavery (in the american Civil conflict) replaced into deeply grounded through religious recommendations - Christian Occident v. Non-Christian Asia (Korea, Vietnam)... besides, religions practice us to have self assurance that if i do no longer accept as true with you, then you definately're incorrect through definition. No probability i'm incorrect. you may desire to be. and there is one step from that into manipulating a human beings right into a conflict in the call of those recommendations.

I would say while they may not be responsible for all wars more people have died in the name of god than anyother single thing throughout history. 1st the old testament is full of war and murder and death done to people on god's command, next the 4 or 5 crusades that happened in the dark ages, then you have all of the religious terrorism over the last 2,000 or 3,000 years, and the witch burnings and the killing of heratics. Religon is no friend to man kind and even though they say they are peaceful in the begininng that is only the start they all fall and want to dominate so let us get rid of the mind numbing, knowledge killing religion once and for all

YES Religion DEFINITELY IS the Source of Most Wars
So to find the TRUE Religion you need to find the ONLY WORLDWIDE Religion that NEVER involves itself with any Nationalistic Wars; No Matter what the circumstances.
ONLY Jehovah's Christian Witnesses fall into that category ! ! !

I think it is. Humans have the problem of thinking that other humans different than them are doing things wrong. So they tell them how they SHOULD be doing it, and that makes the other people mad which makes them say how THEY should be doing it.
After that it just get all out of hand. You'll see this in the work force too. One person does a job one way...and another person does it another way. They both get it done...and done correctly but because one person does it one way and the other another way...they get into a fight.
Mostly it's not actually about the religion it's about wanting to be right, and wanting everyone to be the same, when really, you don't want everyone to be the same, because then we get stuck doing the same thing over and over again, because no one dares to be different.

I sort of believe this in the way. Many religious leaders believe that God wants us to go over there and fight to further God's efforts. They don't talk about the Commandment that says,"thou shall not kill". They don't consider the fact that maybe God is on BOTH sides of the battlelines or NEITHER side. I wish that more religions started gathering hands for peace and keeping their kids out of the war. (just my opinion)`

Not necessarily; however, it has often been used as a justification for wars in the past and present.
I would like to note thought that the Mohammad the founder and prophet of Islam was a warlord, which is far from surprising when you look at today world.
Then again it was his attempt to indoctrinate and destroy all other religions and, as he and his military murdered and destroyed countless communities that brought on the crusades.
