Have you ever had any turn down help from you based on your looks?
My husband and I (very biker looking) stopped to help a lady broken down on the road, went bought gas for her and put it in for her... She was so afraid of us, she sped off with not a thank you or even waiting for her gas cap...
She didn't ask about our religion she just saw the cover to the book.

That was just it...religion didn't matter, neither does not believing... it is just wanting to help someone in need.

the book was us... as each person writes his own autobiography...
And I don't dress to scare people or to cause terrror. I wear leather boots and jacket for safety gear.
This wasn't meant to be about my religion at all, it was just to show that people really do judge before you try to help them out, regardless of your belief system.
And we weren't expecting a reward, but I do believe in common courtesy...at least make sure we are clear of her suv before she took off.

Hey, I hear you. Married to a tattoo artist. =0)
Edit: And what is really funny, I tend to trust tattooed and biker types more readily now...

I wish that people could get over "lookism". Some of the nicest people I know are "biker", rough -looking types. They'd do anything in their power to help someone, even a stranger. My car broke down on an exit ramp once, and a very nice man who was dressed in Harley gear and looked a little mean was the only person to stop and help me push the car to the breakdown lane. He could see I was upset and did everything he could to calm me down. He then gave me a lift to the nearest gas station, and gave me quarters for the phone.
It would never have occurred to me to ask him what his religion was. I just thanked him and made up my mind to do the same for someone else someday if the opportunity arose.

You know how your look puts you in a certain category. It allows you to identify with a certain sub-culture and terrify another. Most people are fairly indifferent.
So you are being "Good Samaritans." That's nice. You are not going to get a medal, unless you were "caught on tape."
You are attempting to terrify and comfort the same people. That is confusing. You can't have it both ways.
If you want a different reaction from other people, you are going to have to dress differently. Or expect the reaction you get.
Please don't stop being kind, even it is confusing.
If you had crosses painted on everything, you might be able to charm a few more strangers.
What religion you advertise is just icing on the "terror" cake.

At work I'm the youngest person in the building by at least 8 years.
I get sneers from some of the upper corporate middle aged men. They're threatened by youth apparently.

That is an example of judging and stereotyping. It shouldn't happen but it does because of the way this world is these days.
I love your screen name. I like the 2nd chapter of acts music!

people still fear sterotypes.
you can thank religion/christianity for a lot of the hate that is directed to people who have stereotypical appearances.

How about those people that have no problem with you until they find out you're an atheist?
Happens to me all the time. :)
