The First Commandment forbids the worship of false gods. While we in this day and age don't have too much actual outright idol worship, this commandment is frequently broken by those who set up anything as being more important than God. Money, material things, worldly pursuits. I've noticed that some actually use the human intellect as a benchmark as to a person's ultimate worth, and as the sole method of determining what is right or wrong. I've always considered one person who has a simple and childlike faith in God, someone who is not an intellectual (Mother Teresa for example), to be the better of one hundred PhD's with a genius IQ, but no spirituality, or belief in anything other than the human intellect.

Relying solely on the flawed and imperfect human intellect alone will result in moral relativism - no absolute good or evil, which eventually leads to rationalization of some very terrible acts - ie world history since "the Enlightenment" of the 1700's

What do you think??

Did you even bother to really read and consider what I wrote? It has absolutely nothing to do with "ideology". That is something that is of *this world* and not the next.

I consider myself to be educated and smart, but that does not make me feel that I am a better person than someone who is not, indeed, someone who,as I said, has a simple and childlike faith in God has a leg up in the holiness dept., which is what really matters. I would gladly trade what I have in intellect and education for a little more of that simple faith. I don't know - maybe I didn't phrase what I was saying correctly, but I thought it was pretty clear - don't know how you get "ego" out of all of that.

One more thing to consider - We as Christians are occasionally going to step on a few toes so to speak when we are explaining or defending our faith. Like Christ Himself said "I come not to bring peace, but a sword........" Anyone who puts anything ahead of Him is not worthy of His Kingdom......

You seem to have proved here that you do not have an inkling about what God's love and teachings are.

You just described yourself as an ideologist - not a Christian!

Perhaps if you used your intellect you could actually debate and discuss instead of preach your opinions in front of God's teachings - Remember - you may be stroking your ego now but you will have to answer to God for your self important egotistical postings at the final coming. I suspect that you will be in serious trouble.

Good Christians avoid posting such things as this because it just brings discredit on the church and hinders the giving of the word.

Pray for forgiveness now and try to learn from your mistakes.

well, that's because god doesn't want thinkers, they might actually figure out that nothing in the bible makes any sense. and what very terrible acts might those be? because i'm willing to bet that among the Inquisition, Mary of Scots and Henry 8, it would be pretty hard to find something worse that nonbelievers have done. stop being so close minded. besides, why would we have been 'given' such great intellect if god only wanted us to be dumb sheep.

Probably in their flawed intellect, they don't truly believe in God. But who are we as true Christians to judge? Christianity has nothing to do with intellect, it has to do with faith. Believing without seeing. Is that enough said?

It is true. You can worship yourself, or thinking that you can outsmart God by getting degrees. Sometimes you can be so smart that you think up stupid things.
