He could have allergies or an upper respiratory infection. It would be best if you took him to the vet.

Have you been using something on the carpets or furniture like Febreze or Arm and Hammer powder? These things can irritate your pets. This time of year, pets can develop allergies to leaf mold, certain pollens, etc. My cat has asthma and has flare ups at certain times of the year. If it's allergies, the vet can give you medicine that you rub on the inside of the ear flap. It's very easy to apply and helps them get through the seasons. If there's no congestion or discharge (other than clear) it's probably not an infection. Just moisten a cotton ball with warm water and wipe their eyes occasionally to help remove any dust or irritants. If that doesn't help, then a trip to the vet might be a good idea. You can always call and get advice from them directly. They don't mind!

Hi

May I ask you a quick question?

Do you smoke?

Sometimes, cats and especially kittens develop an allergic reaction to the smoke, causing them to sneeze and their eyes start watering.

It could also be caused by the high amount of pollen in the air, even if you cat is strictly an indoor cat, if any air from the outside is getting into the inside environment such as through an open (screened) window or through the air conditioner, the pollen that is on the outside of your home will also be inside the home as well.

Whenever one of my cats starts sneezing or they show signs that there eyes are watering, alot, I revert back to home type medicine methods, simply meaning, that it is my firm belief that building up the cats immune system with vitamins, such as fish oil helps increase the strength of the cats immune system enabling the immune system to develop the antibodies necessary to deal with the invading problem.

The simple way that I do this is to get a bottle of fish oil caplets, take one of the caplets out of the bottle, and using a sharp knife, gently slicing the caplet to release the fish oil inside the caplet. I then dip one of my fingers into this fish oil (please make sure to wash your hands with soap and hot water before doing this) and with the fish oil on the tip of one of my fingers, placing the oil on either the right or left paw, on the furry side and gently rubbing the oil into the fur. The cat will probably bolt from the room since most cats dislike having anything placed on their feet, but then will start washing that area that has the fish oil on it, thus getting the fish oil directly into the cats system.

You will not see an immediate relief, as it takes some time for the oil to reach the cats immune system, but if this is done once every two to three days, until you notice a change in the animals behavior and they are not sneezing or there eyes are not watering, then you can stop doing it. If after three or four days, the cat is still suffering from the watery eyes and the sneezing, you might take the cat to the vet for their opinion.

By the way: You didn't recently apply an type of liquid flea drops to the cat, did you? Sometimes this will cause the cat to suffer a reaction to the medicine. If you did, then immediately bath your cat in warm soapy water, rinse it off with warm water (test the temp of the water as you would test the temp of milk before giving it to a baby, by applying a drop or two to either your left or right wrist to determine how warm it is), gently towel dry, completly, including the feet and the pads and then allow the cat to do its thing of washing to get the fur back in a more comfortable arrangement, then watch the cat for a few hours.

I hope this helps solve the problem for you, but if it doesn't, then you might consider taking the cat to your vet for their opinion. I have noticed on this website, that there are several Vets, so they probably can give you more direct types of treatments then I could, afterall, I am not a Vet, just a concerned animal lover.

Cats have allergies like people, mine does. Have you changes the food lately? Does the cat go outside? A vet can best tell you exactly what is wrong. Give it a couple of days and if worse or not better, spend the money and see a vet for your baby.

He does not have a cold. Cats aren't supposed to sneeze. Put him in a carrier and get him to the vet. Do not expose other cats to him. He could be VERY contagious!! Let your vet know that you are coming and why. That way they can have an exam room ready and that will lessen the likelihood of exposure to other cats.

Take the cat to a vet. He's got the symptoms of a URI (upper respiratory infection). They can give him a shot of steroids at the vet to help him heal it. Don't wait until kitty gets a fever, it makes them really really sick.

I waited too long with my kitten, and the fever gave him brain damage (the vet suspects). He was never the same.

It could be a cold or an allergy, but it could also be cat flu. This is very serious and you should take him to a vet straightaway to find out which it is.

I have a cat who did the same thing for a while, turns out the vet told me he had something similar to "hay fever." The vet gave me some pills and he cleared right up! It's just important you let someone exam him/her.
