The desk clerk has $25 since he gave the Bell hop $5. The Bell Hop has $2 since from the $5, he gave each lady $1. So, $25+$2+$3=$30.

This is a + or - question not a multiplication problem. If charged 30 and was only supposed to be charged 25 and was given 5 dollars back and the bell hop kept 2 and gave the three ladies 3 back the total equals 30.dollars.
You know the X = A+B+C = X

Not this one again. There is no missing $1. You are adding the $2 twice. Lets look at more mathematically.
Three women pay $30 for 1 room
Ok, so they paid $10 apiece.
A refund of $5 is due but only $3 is given.
Therefore the women paid $27 for the room.
$27 + $3 = $30
If the bellhop had not stolen the $2 then the equation would have been
$25 + $5 = $30.
There is where the $2 comes from. The price of the room ($25 vs.$27). There is no missing dollar. By adding the $2 to the price of the room again, you throw the equation out of wack.
In the end lets look at who has how much money.
Women -- $3
Bellhop -- $2
Hotel -- $25
------------------------
Total -- $30
As you can see, there is no missing dollar.

where did the 3*9 come in?
they each paid $10 to begin with 10*3=$30
then were each given $1 back by the bell hop who keep $2
(1*3)+2 = $5 that the bell hop was given by the desk clerk. all monies have been accounted for.

the ending math is all screwed up, you aren't figuring out how much each paid, but how much they got back. 30 - the 5 returned is 25... that is how much they paid. 5 was split between them each girl gettin 1 so 1 +1+1=3 and the bell hop kept 2 3+2=5 5+ 25=30 it is all there.

Let's say each woman paid 10 to make 30 right? Then, it turns out, it was 25 instead of 30. So, 25 plus 2 for the tip equals 27 so each woman paid 9 and got back 1! Ajua!

Altogether, $25 went to the room bill, $3 back to the ladies ($1/each), and $2 to the bellhop so that equals $30.
