I read where upwards 50% of Mormon women are on anti-depressents. Why is that?

For the same reason that there are non-Mormon women on anti-depressants; to try to cure their depression.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that our beliefs are what put so many Mormon women on anti-depressants. I saw a sign in front of a baptist church that suggested that depression can be cured just by accepting Jesus. Probably think a woman is not saved if she has to take anti-depressants.

Some won't admit they are depressed, my mom didn't get on anti-depressants until after I left the family, my dad is an undiginised OCD (he sayus I couldn't go to heaven unless I learn to properly clean the house right) and my brother...I am probably OCD to. A cult can be stressful, my friend became an alcoholic and killed herself by having her husband take her kids away, move into her Mom and Dad's house who were Mormon's, try to hide her alcoholic addiction by drinking hairspray and died from drinking the whole bottle, my friend also tried to commit suicide by blowing his brains out, but he survivied, his family moved away from the ward. I left the church, got saved and stopped being suicidal. Sorrry if this offends anyone, the truth hurts sometimes.

I'm not sure sure of the percentage, but if there is a correlation, it might be the combination of large families at a young age, lower than average income, a 10% temple tax and the ever-present condition of 'worthiness' placed on them, plus multiple duties related to childcare on temple nights and Sundays, not counting lesson preparation time if one is a teacher.

This runs counter to the culture of today's 'image' of what a young woman 'should be': successful, independent, childless and husbandless.

And perhaps, just maybe, they aren't thrilled with the prospect that this condition may last forever because god is 'just a man...'

It's all the work they think they have to do to get into the "best" heaven. They have to bake bread, keep a perfect house, do temple work, do at least one cross stitch sampler a week, keep up with church calllings, always look perfect, always act perfect, always smile, serve their husbands, make quilts, grow and can a year's supply of food, all while staying pregnant while they are still nursing a baby. It's enough to wear anyone out!

They are with Mormon men. Try going to one of their meetings and you will see what I mean.

This is a true situation according to the census.
What is the nature of salvation for a woman? She is not saved unless her husband calls her forth. Trusting in someone other than Christ for salvation puts a tremendous load on you because you have to help the other be righteous.
