There is a happiness to be found in Memorial Day. It isn't about BBQ's, it's about honoring, and remembering our soldier's, not just in Pearl Harbor, WWI, and WWII, Vietnam, it's about all soulder's who give the deepest sacrifice for their country, and their country men and women. The happiness is that we are free, because of their sacrifice for us. Let's not quibble over words used. They is nothing wrong with wishes happiness for the troops, or for anyone. I hope our troops can be happy today, and sending them a card, to show our love and appreciation, may do that. God Bless them, and America!

It does my heart good to see that our troops are getting better support from the public thanks to groups and websites like this one.
Say thanks to a member of the military and their families. Remind them that we do think very highly of their sacrifices.

This Memorial Day, is in honer of all the sacrifices of those who care about keeping America strong & free.
It is happy only in the sense that it is a holiday for most.
No reason to celebrate. We honer and remember what they did for us. Let us not forget those wounded & in hospitals.
My husband retired from the military, having volunteered during WW2. One of our sons retired from the military last Dec.. I am very grateful that they made it through there battles.
We have seen so many changes since WW2. I was little, but seems everybody was a good red blooded American and the support for America by Americans was awesome.
Sorry, I was back there for a moment. ( a senior moment).
I wore red today and seen a lot of it, lets keep that going.
I'll send some cards off to the guys & gals and thank those I see. I realize in reading some of these answers, how cruel military are being treated by some. MAKE SURE YOU GOOD AMERICANS THANK THE MILITARY FOR THEIR SERVICE.~~~GOD BLESS YOU, ONE AND ALL~~~~jill

Thank you, but actually MEMORIAL DAY is a day set aside to remember the sacrifices those who GAVE ALL made, not the living. Memorial days did not start in Petersburg, Virginia; Waterloo, New York; or any other city in the United States. Memorial days upon which the graves of the communities' heroes were decorated with flowers and garlands are ancient customs originating in Greece 2,500 years ago. Memorial days were set aside during the American Civil War in both the United States and the Confederate States of America. Following the Civil War, also known as the War Between the States (or as they say 'down south', "that recent unpleasantness with the northern states"), various communities started having memorial services for the war dead. The city of Waterloo, New York was officially recognized as the place where the first memorial services were held after the Civil War. Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include casualties of any war or military action. Memorial Day formerly occurred on May 30, and some, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), advocate returning to this fixed date, although the significance of the date is tenuous. The VFW stated in a 2002 Memorial Day Address, "Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day. No doubt, this has contributed a lot to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day." Hawaii's Senator Daniel Inouye, a World War II veteran, has repeatedly introduced measures to return Memorial Day to its traditional day since 1987. (USN, retired, 1965 -1985)

I thank and I support our troops, I'm very proud they have followed orders so well, very Honorable. I just do not support the people that put them in harms way for nothing. I feel sorry for the family and friends of our brave soldiers killed or torn to bits in some VA hospital.

every day men and women of the u.s. armed forces voluntarily put their lives on the line so we can enjoy the freedoms that make America a land of opportunity and hope. not only do these heroes make tremendous sacrifices, but so do the families that stand behind them. thanks to these dedicated service members and the strength and support of their families, the fabric of our nation remains strong.. god bless..

Thanks brother and sisters, I will continue to stand in the gap with you for as long as they will let me..........
"SI VIC PACEM PARA BELLUM!"
Oh- and so you know I would rather see yellow ribbons, American flags flying, and three word slogans any day than a divided nation.

The words "Happy Memorial Day" are an oxymoron. Think about it, what could possibly be happy about a memorial day ? Chose your words more carefully if you expect an intelligent response to your questions.
