If you have just met someone who wants to talk to you about a possible business venture, and he states that he will meet you at a coffee shop at a certain time to discuss it, how long will you wait for him there if he is late? (Let's assume you have no way to contact him)

15 min- that more than gives them time for traffic issues or whatever. if they are later than that, you don't want to do business with them.

Please specify what nationality they are, as timeliness is culturally specific.

Well, first if I just met the person, I would want to verify their position before even agreeing to meet with them. There are a lot of scam artists out there looking for gullible people.

If I verify they are legitimate, I would wait maybe an hour or an hour and a half. I would assume by no contact you mean no cell phone. I would call their office and talk to their Secretary to see if he is on his way.

If he is 1 to one and a half hours late for a meeting, and you just met them, you probably don't want to get involved. The only exception is an emergency or an accident and they wouldn't be able to show up anyway because they would be dealing with the crisis.

Now, keep in mind--this is for BUSINESS. So, how punctual he is will show you firsthand how reliable he will be in the future. Business partnerships are about Trust and RELIABILTY.

You should only wait 30 minutes MAX--and even thats being very geneours. Anytime after that just means they arent professional.

EDIT---------------------
"Hot Rican" gave really good answer. If that guy is Helping You Out (like offering a job, offering to invest his money in you etc), then you sit your behind there are wait an hour and some change. If you are equal or helping him--30--35 minutes Max

An hour the most. If he came late for a possible business venture it just shows that he's not taking it seriously and may be taking things a little too lightly when he shows up late for the meeting. As though he's not interested or does not see this partnership to be his top priority.

It depends on the importance of the meeting. If you think it might be a great deal, wait up to an hour. After an hour, he will probably assume you have already left. If it's not too big of a deal, leave after 20 minutes. I would say anything past twenty minutes in excusable on your part.

If you have no way to contact them, then you can't know them very well and should be very wary of entering into a business venture with them. Generally speaking though, I would wait about 15 minutes.

I would wait about 1/2 hour in case they got stuck in traffic or something happened to make them late. After that I would leave a message at the coffee shop and leave.

30 mins is an acceptable time to wait for someone for an appointment..if he was running late for a reason he could always call the coffee shop asn ask them to inform you he will be late...reset the meeting..and hope its not a insight into future business dealings with him

Since Venture Capitalists are important, and this could be a great opportunity for you I would say wait an 1-1.5 hours.

If you did have a way to contact him I'd say make sure he has the right location.

I would wait 30 minutes from the time when he said he would get there. So even if I arrive early, the clock starts ticking at the time he said he would arrive.
