Not possible to keep it short, to explain properly requires a long answer; here's a short but not very good answer.

Earth and the Sun go through natural cycles resulting in more or less heat, over millions of years this leads to global warming or cooling - always has done, always will do.

Warming is caused by heat from the sun becoming trapped within out atmosphere, greenhouse gases form a blanket that trap heat. The more greenhouse gases the hotter it becomes.

About 200 years ago the Industrial Revolution began and humans began producing large quantities of greenhouse gases, as levels of GHG's have risen so too have the temperatures.

There's far more to it than that but you wanted a short answer.

Global warming started tens of millions of years ago when the earth was yet young.
Global warming is powered by the sun and effected by our non-circular orbit compounded by the 23° tilt of our rotational axis.
Global warming is a fully natural cycle which keeps this planet's mean temperature cycling around the freezing point of water.
Global warming is not induced by humans.
Global warming is not stoppable by humans.
Global cooling is the obverse side of this phenomenon.
Global cooling was the scare tactic of the 70's.
Global cooling was not induced by humans either.

It is all about money.

If you follow the money, you will find who profits by a global warming 'crisis' and you will see that you are being lied to.

in the first spark of Genesis, when God said, "Let there be light..."

it became a problem when Al Gore ran out of money from seeling secret technology to his Chinese friends and needed some kind of income.

I'm from Tennessee, just down the road from Carthage...goofy Al's "hometown"...i use the quotation marks because Al never really lived here...his daddy was a Senator-whose claim to fame was voting AGAINST the civil rights act of 1964 repeatedly...Al grew up in DC, went to only the best private schools, and has never actually worked a day in his life...

all this screaming about Global Warming...when i was in high school-way back in the 70's--Al and Tipper went around to schools screaming about Global COOLING...that was a lie too, but Al didn't have the Press he does now, so it never got any traction.

google the "Great Global Warming Swindle" and see how you are being lied to...if you have the courage to seek the Truth.

funny how easy "inconvenient" and "truth" go together for AlGore...

1400-1850
The Little Ice Age covers the globe with record cold, large glaciers and snow. This massive climate change triggers disease, famine and death. Today, many scientists believe that global warming caused by the greenhouse effect will be the fastest warming of the Earth since the end of the Little Ice Age.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1841
Newspapers report on Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier's theory about the earth's warming. However, many believe that the warming of the earth is a positive development.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1894
Newspapers reflect on the past decade that brought about a revolution in the labor industries. During the 20th century, scientists will mark this time period as the beginning of industrial pollution of the environment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1913-1914
Swedish scientist and Nobel Laureate Svente Arrhenius coins the term "greenhouse effect" and predicts that the Earth's climate is slowly warming. However, Arrhenius argues that change is thousands of years away and many scientists dismiss the plausibility of the theory. Arrhenius' prediction sparks speculation about the end of the world
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1933
President Roosevelt establishes the Soil Erosion Service in response to the devastation of the Dust Bowl and as a part of his New Deal programs to create jobs. The Soil Erosion Service is the predecessor of the Soil Conservation Service established in 1935, which is known today as the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NCRS).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1934
April 14:
The worst dust storm of the Dust Bowl grips the American Midwest in what later becomes known as "Black Sunday." The Dust Bowl is believed to have been caused by soil erosion brought about by poor farming techniques.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1949-1950
Amateur scientist, G.S. Callendar claims that the greenhouse effect is on the way and is directly linked to human actions. Callendar's claims are largely dismissed. However, in response to his theories scientists begin to develop new ways to measure the Earth's climate.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1950-1970
The development of new technology leads to an increased awareness about global warming and the greenhouse effect. New studies begin to show that the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is rising each year and pollution concerns begin to enter into every day life.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1984-1990
Theories about global warming and the greenhouse effect become more prevalent, gaining attention from mass media. However, many people believe the threat is not eminent and some doubt that global climate change is a danger.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1992
June 3:
The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development commences. It ends with more than 150 nations signing a declaration committing themselves to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in their countries.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1997-2005
On December 1, 1997 a worldwide conference on global warming begins in Kyoto, Japan. 125 nations sign the Kyoto Protocol, committing to reduce pollution. However, the United States refuses to sign it stating that it is impractical. The Kyoto treaty would later come into effect in 2005.

Industrial age.... and the must have it all and consume consume consume attitude. Example: American Bison...almost extinct at one time because travelers on trains would shoot at them out the windows just 'cause they could, for sport. They were constantly slaughtered for hides and nothing else.
If we keep treating our planet and our resources this way Mother Earth will pass into extinction also.
