Go tell them that. Ask them where you can help.

It may sound simplistic, but I've found that a simple "thank you" to a police officer or a firefighter can considerably brighten their day. Most of them serve because they genuinely care about people and a thank you goes a long way. As a member of the military, I've been on the receiving end and you might be surprised how good it feels just to hear those two words.

Alternatively, take them some brownies or cookies. Although there are the occasional moments of excitement, police and firefighters endure a lot of tedium. We all like the occasional munchie!

There are many different ways you can 'show them how much you appreciate them' ... you can 'talk to them in person' one-on-one, you can send a 'card' to the 'chief' and ask him to 'tell them and show them the card' or you can get together with a group of 'like minded people' and set up a place with a 'huge card or banner' and lots of pens so 'everyone who wants to' can sign it and add a message ... or you could try 'baking' something, or 'cooking something special' and take it to them directly ... or get a 'group together' to do that, too. IT IS UP TO YOU ... but you need to DO IT! Police and Firefighters don't get 'thanked' nearly enough!

I am a member of our local Elks lodge (B.P.O.E. - Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks).

We put on a luncheon or dinner once a year for our county policemen and firefighters. We do not charge for the facilities and we provide the food.

Last year we had about 50 attend and it cost us approximately
$70 for t-bones, baked potatoes, salad, rolls, corn and dessert plus we got a DJ to come in who donated his time.

So....you might want to check with your local Moose Lodge or Elks lodges to see if they would donate the lodge for this type of function. Purchase the food at a food distributor (the lodge can help you). We go through Sysco.

Good Luck.

Both of these services have organizations that they "sponsor". Send a letter to the Fire Marshall and one to the Police Chief, and ask for directions on how to "volunteer" for their worthy causes.
