Remember this one:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray dear Lord my soul you'll keep,
If I should die before I wake,
I pray dear Lord, my sould you'll take.

Isn't this a bad prayer to have children say before going to sleep?

If I should die before I wake? Geesh...are you trying to give the kid's nightmares.

It is interesting that even at a young age fundamentalists are trying to scare people into believing in God....they try to brainwash people even with children's bedtime prayers..

Your thoughts?

It's just more of that inane brainwashing.

You make a good point, but once again, it's like teaching advanced Algebra to a brick wall. They won't get it.

That's right, it's a scare tactic. The Muslims will also tell you you will go to hell if you do not embrace Islam as the one true faith. Fortunately Christianity and Islam are the only two religions that use scare tactics. Most other religions have reached A higher state of civilization.

My granddaughter prays:

"Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Guide me safely through the night
and wake me with the morning light."

But I prayed the prayer you list when I was little and it never scared me... I actually found it comforting to know that I might wake up in Heaven!

There's no "brainwashing" involved. I don't force my granddaughter to pray, and I didn't force my daughters to pray - they did it because THEY wanted to. Your parents raised you on THEIR beliefs didn't they? (or lack of them) Christians are instructed to train up a child in the way he/she SHOULD go - God will do the rest.

Do NOT interfere with a parent's right to raise their child how they see fit, in ANY area. God didn't GIVE that child to YOU, so your child-rearing opinions don't matter unless the parent has specifically asked you for them. I can't STAND it when people think they have the right to tell other people how to raise their children - especially when the person expressing the opinion doesn't even HAVE children of their own!

My kids pray and I have not taught them to recite a prayer or a poem. I have taught them that praying is talking to God. My kids pray for their family, that they will sleep well and some silly things that only children would pray for, it is sweet and I believe God hears the prayers of my children. . .their faith has yet to be tested so it is faith in the purest form.

No.Would you rather they believe the dead remain in a cemetary for eternity?Or believe in santa claus instead of the Almighty?Maybe you would;but for me and my house we shall serve the Lord!

I grew up saying it. It never bothered me at all. You know real timid kids or something?
