How long should someone wait to ensure that the next relationship will not just be a rebound? How do I know that I may be just searching for someone to feel that "void"? Me and my ex just broke up last week, and a new guy just asked me out. Is this too soon to be dating again?

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. If you have to think if the guy is a rebound. More than not he is. I don't know if you drive, but when you replace a car. You are GLAD to do it. You don't sit in the new car wondering if it was a mistake and you should have tried the keep the old car(which was gotten rid of for a reason). There WAS a reason why you and the ex are exes. You are just feeling that disconnect. That unusual feeling of not having that other half. Even if it was not a perfect half. I have seen it over again and again. Women friends I know who would rather be in a busted relationship than have NO RELATIONSHIP. And, yeah, the lack of reg sex played a part in it. In reality, you could wait 15 years and still be on the rebound. Until you tell yourself, you are looking for the new, not trying to hold on to old, every guy that comes will be a stop gap, because you will compare what you have with them to what you lost with the ex.

I think the whole rebound term is ambiguous in itself in a way as everyone is different. Basically, my own personal look at things are that if a relationship ends because you have no feelings for the other person whatsoever, then finding someone knew won't exactly be a rebound. On the other hand, if you still hold a torch for ther person you split with, getting with someone new right afterwards wouldn't be such a good idea as you'll then be looking for someone to "replace" the person you broke up with, or worse, you'll compare them. So, make sure it feels 100% right to find someone new before just jumping in feet first, and take it one day at a time.

It's only a rebound if you make it a rebound. If you want to go out with this new guy, then do it. Give him an honest chance! Personal experience: I was with someone and it didn't work out. I decided right away to dig into something else instead of dwelling on a relationship gone bad. Four days later I met the man that I love and will be marrying him in the near future. You're going to be fine, just give those that you date the respect that they deserve by focusing on them during the time you spend with them.

It's all about you. If you feel like you're over your Ex then it's totally cool to start dating again. If you start feeling uncomfortable then back off and tell him you're just not ready. just be sure that you want to be with him and you're not just taking the first guy that comes by. go on a few casual dates and if you find yourself thinking about him a lot then you know it's not just a rebound.

I would say it's too soon to get involved seriously with someone. But what harm would it do to go out and have some fun. Beats sitting around thinking of your ex.

No. it's not too soon to date again, but it might be too soon to get serious about someone else. Just keep it cool for a while and let time tell.
