im going there for vacation in july, i live in NY and have never been there. im thinking about staying in the continental hotel, its in the upper west side, on 95th street near broadway. is this a good area?

Yes, that is an excellent area.
I live in NYC and my parents came to visit me recently from the Midwest. They stayed on 96th and Broadway and absolutely loved the neighborhood. Very convenient to the train; many 24 hour restaurants; very quiet and safe.
I'd highly recommend the area!

Yes it is good there, you should stay south of 100th st and north of 9th ave and you should be fine. I hope you get to see the central park zoo, Metropolitan museum and/or Museum of modern art, & Lincoln Center
