first find out from your city what are the local laws regarding dogs and barking. where I live there ARE barking laws and it's the owners responsibility to train the dogs or they can get cited. also find out from the city what the laws protect you as a tenant if you live in an apartment building and contact the landlord with all the info and ask them what their rules are regarding dogs. a person should feel comfortable in their own home, that's what a home is for and there are many rules and regulations that protect tenants so that they can be comfortable and happy in their residence. I'm pretty sure that you're not the only one annoyed with this, talk to other neighbors and see what their feelings are, you might be able to petition to the landlord or the neighbor to do something about it, do all this ESPECIALLY if the dog is barking during sleeping hours or at night.

Well, screaming at him, squirting water, and et al will certainly endure you to him. I don't know why that wouldn't work. (insert sarcastic look here) Why not try a carrot instead of a stick? (although your neighbor should be the one doing this, with the dog on a leash) Get a bag of treats. Go to the fence and give him one. Have him sit. Tell him he's a good boy. Give him another treat. As long as he's quiet. Tell him he's good. If he starts to bark, tell him "No". When he stops, give him a treat. You should do this every day, for a couple of days at least. Gradually work to only giving verbal praise and no treats. That way he doesn't think he gets a treat when he barks and is quiet again. It should work. Like I said, it should be your neighbor doing it and not you. It'll work best with the dog on a leash, because that is more of a symbol of control for the dog.

You probably can't get much done during NORMAL hours meaning a noise ordinance won't help unless the dog is barking during obscene hours. Retaliation to ignorance is definitely not the solution. Is the dog inside or outside? Perhaps there's another angle to attack the problem. If the dog is being neglected, I'm sure a complaint to the NY RSPCA could include the barking issue too. This way, if they investigate they'll be likely to cover any legal issues to include vaccinations, licenses ans anything else they can think of. Good luck.

Call animal control.. Odds are if they are allowing the dog to bark constantly, they aren't taking care of it properly.. Those people who don't care about how their dog is bothering their neighbours, generally are doing something else they shouldn't be.. Get Animal control to take a look around.. They don't have the right to infringe on your quality of life..

Try asking her nicely if she can do something about the barking. You can't make her do anything, because it's her dog. Maybe there is something you are doing that annoys her in return, and she is holding that against you. I would suggest compromising, like something such as "I will stop _____ if you keep your dog's barking under control". Hope this helps!

you're HORRIBLE! my neighbor called 911 police on our dogs three times and eventually we got sued and both of them, 5 month old spaniels, were killed by the police. i was and am still devastated. Its just asking for more attention from its owner. Spare the poor thing and maybe ask an obedience trainer to train the dog on the neighbor's bank account or something. just don't make the same mistake as my neighbor, please.
