In what sense of the word? Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God and had no earthly/biological father. Joseph did step in and take the role of "dad" for Jesus, at least, as far as we can tell.

Jesus was born of a virgin and was conceived by the Holy Spirit who comes from Father God.

Joseph adopted Jesus as one of his.

Jesus is the Word of God who came down from heaven to earth and lived among us as one of us. He is 100% Word of God and 100% Son of Man.

There is one story from the time that indicates Mary was raped by a Roman soldier.

From Wiki:
"The Church Father Origen wrote an apologetic work refuting the claims of Celsus, a late second-century eclectic Greek philosopher and polemic writer against Christianity. Preserved in Origen's work is the claim of Celsus that Jesus was an illegitimate child of a certain Roman soldier named Panthera from Mary, who had been turned out by her husband because she was convicted of unfaithfulness.[15] These claims are related to the references in the Talmud to the figure of Ben-Pandera. According to the early third century Acts of Pilate, a Christian apocryphal work, the elders of the Jews stated to Pilate during the trial of Jesus that he had been conceived through fornication"

There is also overwhelming evidence that the translation into greek from the original aramaic for the word "virgin" was done improperly and the far more correct translation should be "young woman".

The entire story of a virgin birth is most assuredly a lie.

Joseph. As far as our earliest sources were concerned, everyone assumed Jesus was the son of his purported father. Other ideas were introduced only later.
