I saw a Christian's answer to a question on this theme that was along the lines of "Think of God as daddy" and another one that explained it in terms of her toddler being naughty.
Threatening eternal hideous torture for not cleaning up your room is bad parenting. That's not a love I want any part of.
I grew up a devout Christian. I do know what I'm talking about.

This is less an answer to you question, and more an expansion addressing the responses of others;
But God is supposed to be omnipotent. That means all knowing too. He knew from the moment he set Adam and Eve down on the earth, what they were going to do. He knew that humans would kill Jesus for his message. So in essence he sent Jesus to die. Nobody is contests this. He also is supposedly the only God, so if Jesus was really sacrificed to pay for the sins of humanity, who was he sacrificed to, and to what end? God could just as easily have sent down Angels saying “This is what you did, this is why it’s wrong, and you need to shape up” then content in a job well done he could have forgiven them. He chose to kill his son as a sacrifice to HIMSELF. That makes less than no sense. Unless the only purpose of Jesus’ death was to make him a martyr. A symbol, nothing more. This would mean his death wasn’t a way to save us, but just a way to get our attention, and my Angel scenario would have done that nicely- except in a generation no one would believe again. Humans need bloodshed to understand things. There needs to be great consequences for humans to get it. Maybe THAT and not the death itself is the moral, and the Chrisitans just missed the point. It would be like if God came down and stomped his foot in frustration, and instead of thinking “Wow, god’s frustrated with our not listening, let’s fix it” they just worshiped the shoe shaped crater…

No, he did not brutally murder him. When God realized that human beings will always sin he gave his only son as a sacrifice to ransom all people who would accept him as God.

He was loving and to send His son so that we could have a relationship with us. Now, scince Jesus endured, he is at God's right hand. Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. It was not brutal murder - it was a WILLING sacrifice. God is perfect, man is not. Only a PERFECT and HOLY sacrifice can reconcile man to God, so He came to earth in human form to be sacrificed for OUR sins (past, present, and future) because God does not want any of His children to burn in Hell. But if we deny Him, He will deny us.
Jesus could've said the word, and the angels would've come down and saved Him - but He died for YOU because HE LOVES YOU. Why can't you just accept His love?

I do not know God's mind, nor do I know if He ever changes His plans. Although I do believe at one time He considered wiping us all out, but then He found Noah who He felt was worthy.
So to me that says that sometimes God does change His plans. I do believe that God knows the "master plan" but that doesn't mean that He can not change things.
I do not know if God always intended for Jesus to come and die for our sins, but even if He did, Jesus knew it was His path and just before He prays and says that He has finished the work that God had given Him to do.
It was a sacrifice He was willing to make. I am one who is honored and thankful for His sacrifice.

No, From the begining of time God knew mans heart and wicked ways and disobedience. So God knew man would kill his son and sin would be prevailant and there would be great sufferings in the world. God does not want us to hate him, which is exactly how we become if we are condemned. And it is not our place, nor are we worthy to judge God or even ourselves. So from the Love of God's heart, he allowed his miracle to be killed. Knowing his miracle would arise in 3 days as another testimony of miracles to mankind, to get the attention of man, to change the heart of man to give them love where there was none. In order to focus our eyes on the word of God, Jesus, the miracles he performed, and the words he spoke. In order to save us from sin, so that we don't live in vain and die and go to hell. I know where I want to go, because he loves me if I love him. And he also knows exactly what he is going to do with each of us. What do you think he will do with you, I am warning you to be careful. There are many answers to this question you ask in the Word of God. It is my duty to inform of this in hopes you read as it is written in Ezekiel3:17-21
As it is known that many people like yourself are asking questions that cast doubt into the hearts of men as it concerns Gods intentions. This is not a good thing, because the blood will be on your hands. So I warn you in the name of the Lord to stop you from asking questions like the one you ask here. I also advise you to seek out a man of God and get into fellowship and read the word of God. Turn from your wicked ways. Repent from your sin against God. And get into realizing that the loving grace of God is now upon you and you don't want that to leave you alone again. You have a choice to make now, You have been warned!

brutally murder his son to save his creation from himself
and it wasn't much of a sacrifice since he then resurrected himself and brought himself up to heaven to sit beside himself.
and you're expected to accept this as true! Yeah I don't think so

If he knew the future all along, we'd all be ruled by fate, which would mean that hope is useless.
